Marine Corps Marathon Announces Healthy School Award Winners

November 29, 2017

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization and its partner Sodexo, are announcing the Healthy School Award winners that include five Northern Virginia elementary schools. Each of the schools has earned the award as the result of their overall student participation at the MCM Kids Run presented by Virginia529. The MCM Kids Run was held Saturday, Oct. 21 in Arlington, VA, the day prior to the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon.

Turkey Trot Mile and 10K close out MCM Event Series

November 18, 2017

On a breezy autumn morning on Marine Corps Base Quantico, 936 runners competed in the Turkey Trot 10K. Preceding the 6.2 mile run, more than 250 young runners and parents gobbled up a one-mile, untimed run. Participants arrived from 21 states and the District of Columbia dressed in turkey costumes and departed with a uniquely designed Thanksgiving-camo Turkey Trot shirt.

Former Groundpounder Announces MCM Retirement

Will Brown of Raleigh, NC, formerly recognized as one of the MCM beloved Groundpounders, is announcing his retirement from running the event after having participated in “The People’s Marathon” for 42 consecutive years.

Over 20,000 Finishers Run the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon

The 42nd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) resulted in record-breaking finishes today for Virginia participants in both the MCM10K, with 7,061 total finishers, and in the Marathon’s wheeled division.

42nd MCM Offers Shuttles, Parking Panda, Water Taxi & ‘Kiss n Run’

As the majority of MCM Weekend events from Oct. 20-22 occur at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National harbor, MD, the Marine Corps Marathon Organization is offering free shuttle service from both the Eisenhower and Van Dorn Metro stations to the Gaylord.

MCM10K Entries Sell Out for October 22 Event in DC and Arlington, VA

All entries for the MCM10K have sold out. The MCM10K coincides with the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) on Sunday, Oct. 22. The MCM10K starts on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and finishes alongside the Marathon on the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.

Events.com to Become New MCM Registration Company in 2018

Events.com, Inc. has been selected as the new registration company for the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) in 2018. Events.com’s proprietary technology platform will provide event-management software, including registration services and merchandise sales. Events.com replaces RaceIt, the Richmond, VA-based company closing on Nov. 15.

Actor and U.S. Marine J.W. Cortes to Run MCM10K on October 22

J.W. Cortes is a unique-kind of Hollywood triple threat. The accomplished singer and actor, is also a U.S. Marine. On October 22, Cortes will continue his “triple threat” status at the MCM10K singing, running and serving as the official starter of the event.

Virginia and DC Runners Win Quantico Tri and Quantico 12K

Under near perfect conditions 1,129 runners and triathletes completed the Quantico 12K or the Quantico Tri at Marine Corps Base Officer Candidate School today. The events were hosted back-to-back by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Organization as part of the MCM Event Series. The Quantico Tri kicked off first with the early-morning sun making it a picturesque open-water swim in the Potomac River.

Marine Corps Marathon Health & Fitness Expo Wins “Best of Show”

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Health & Fitness Expo has won “Best of Show,” a national award presented Aug. 22 by the Trade Show News Network *TSNN) at its TSNN Awards celebration of success in New Orleans. The MCM’s Health & Fitness Expo is the only endurance event to receive top honors among the five final shows nominated from a wide category of events.

Quantico Tri and Quantico 12K Sell Out

Two events of the Marine Corps Marathon Event Series, the Quantico Tri and Quantico 12K have sold out. The events will be held Saturday, Aug. 26 at Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA.

Marine Corps Marathon Announces Metro to Open at 6 a.m. on October 22

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization today announced it will open Metro at 6 a.m. on Marathon morning, Sunday, Oct. 22 and unveiled the 2017 Marathon course that begins in Arlington, VA and runs throughout the nation’s capital. The announcement was made prior to a runner fitness program held at MedStar Health’s Sports Medicine facility in Northwest Washington, D.C.

Marine Corps Marathon Transfer Program Opens Today

Runners wanting to participate in the sold out Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in Arlington, VA and throughout the nation’s capital on Oct. 22 can obtain entry through the MCM Transfer Program opening today at www.marinemarathon.com. This year, the Transfer Program also is available to those registered to run the MCM10K, which coincides with “The People’s Marathon.”

‘Little Dirt, Can’t Hurt’ at Run Amuck on June 10 at Quantico

Fredericksburg VA Runner Captures Consecutive Wins at Marines Corps Historic Half

Mark Hopely ran past throngs of cheering spectators at the tenth anniversary of the Marine Corps Historic Half to achieve back-to-back wins at the event in his hometown of Fredericksburg. Hopely finished the 13.1-mile Historic Half ahead of 5,177 total finishers in 1:10:38 today, beating his winning finish time last year of 1:11:06. Hopely became the fourth fastest finisher of the Historic Half over the past ten years.

Roads will close only on Marine Corps Historic Half Sunday, May 21, starting at 6:30 a.m. A rolling road opening will continue throughout the event as the last runners travel the 13.1-mile course.

Lottery Registration Closes for 42nd Marine Corps Marathon

Lottery registration for the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is now closed. The MCM Lottery opened March 22 and remained open for eight days to provide runners access worldwide. Beginning tomorrow March 30, runners will receive notification of their registration status via email as result of the lottery process. Those not selected through the MCM Lottery still can register to participate in the Marathon through the many Charity Partners connected to this year’s event.

U.S. Marine Captures Second Win at 17.75K in Prince William County, VA

For the second consecutive year, 2nd Lt. Andrew Harper, 25, a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, captured first place at the Marine Corps 17.75K finishing in 1:06:10, just over a minute under his 2016 finishing time of 1:05:33. Harper led 2,834 finishers, the largest total since the event’s introduction in 2013.

All-Marine Running team Selects New Coaches for 2017 Season

The U.S. Marine Corps’ All-Marine Running Program, managed by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO), has selected two new coaches for the elite running team. Coach William Stearns and Dave Davis both of Stafford, VA will be with U.S. Marine runners this weekend as the runners compete in the Armed Forces Cross Country Championship in Bend, OR. The Cross Country Championship occurs Feb. 4 and includes elite runners from all branches of the military services.
