MCM Organization Hosts Event to Celebrate “The Chosin Few”

In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) hosted the Frozen Chosin 7.0 Miler aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Saturday, Dec. 12. More than 200 runners and their families helped to celebrate the festive conclusion to the 2020 MCM Event Series.

Turkey Trot 10K and Miler Will Now Be Virtual Only Event

In compliance with new guidelines directed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia about gatherings, the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) will no longer host a live version of the Turkey Trot 10K and Mile aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Virtual 218-Miler to Mark 30th Anniversary of Operation Desert Storm

In honor of the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, also known as the liberation of Kuwait, the Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) will host the virtual Desert Storm 218 Miler. Runners ages 10 and up will have the opportunity to complete 218 miles—the approximate distance the Marines covered upon arrival between the main airport in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia to the middle of Kuwait City. This trek was made from January 17 to February 28, the date the U.S. and coalition troops finally forced the Iraqi army out of Kuwait.

Virtual MCM10K Event Sells Out

7.0-Mile Event to Commemorate 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir

The Battle of Chosin Reservoir has been recognized as the most brutal in modern warfare by violence, casualty rate and weather conditions. Over the course of 14 days in 1950, 17 Medals of Honor were awarded. On November 14, 1950, a cold front from Siberia descended over the Chosin Reservoir, and the temperature plunged as low as −36 °F. Between November 27 and December 13, approximately 30,000 United Nations Command troops including those from the US (later nicknamed “The Chosin Few”) were encircled and attacked by about 120,000 Chinese troops. The UN forces were nevertheless able to break out of the encirclement.

MCM Organization Hosts First Live Event Series

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) hosted its first live event for 2020 on Saturday, Aug. 22. More than 300 runners from 16 states gathered aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico to participate in the Belleau Wood 8K, Quantico 12K and Recon Ruck. An additional 1,600 registered for the virtual version of the events.

No Live Events for the 2020 MCM Weekend

Changes to MCM Weekend Schedule Announced

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) today announced changes to the 2020 MCM Weekend schedule by removing the live MCM Kids Run and MCM10K from the lineup of events happening on October 24-25. The MCM10K will now be a virtual-only event. Additionally, the MCM Kids Run has been rebranded to the MCM Semper Fun Mile, a one-mile virtual event for kids to run with their parents or guardians.

MCMO Reschedules June Events to August

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) is rescheduling events originally planned for June 20. Now, the Belleau Wood 8K and Recon Ruck will occur alongside the Quantico 12K on August 22 with corresponding virtual options. Run Amuck will become a do-it-yourself, virtual-only experience. Additionally, the Quantico Tri will be removed from the event schedule and be replaced by a new virtual option.

MCM Earns Gold Level Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has earned Gold Level Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport, an organization that independently verifies the socially and environmentally responsible work by sports events. This is the second time the MCM has earned gold certification. Previously, the MCM earned Silver Level certification in 2009 and again in 2011, and first earned gold in 2014.

Marine Corps Marathon Issues Third-Ever Lifetime Ban for Cheating

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) recently concluded an investigation into the running history of a 55-year-old female participant at both the Marine Corps 17.75K and the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The research, including photographic evidence and timing data, indicates that the runner had cheated over multiple years by not running the entire course and then claiming the reward of a finisher.
