The Marine Corps Marathon Organization (MCMO) is excited to unveil the 2023 event schedule! This provisional schedule offers live and virtual options for multiple events of various distances for all levels and ages from February through November.
The Newbie
Operation Iraqi Freedom 200.3 Miler
The year kicks off with the Operation Iraqi Freedom 200.3 Miler running on February 1 to March 19. The latest installment in MCMO’s virtual series, this event commemorates the 20th anniversary of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Participants can take on the distance solo or as part of a team, accruing mileage during the allotted dates. The event will feature an interactive tracking map providing runners historical facts as milestones are reached. More information can be found here.
Returning Challenges
Your favorite challenges will return this year, with a few slight changes!
Distinguished Participant
Start your path to becoming distinguished in March with the Marine Corps 17.75K. In 2023, the beloved race through Prince William Forest Park will now count toward the Distinguished Participant Medal. Don’t worry, finishers will still gain Access Granted into the 48th Marine Corps Marathon on October 29, 2023 as well!
The path will also run through Arlington, Va. and the nation’s capital with the addition of the MCM Weekend events to the lineup with the program now encapsulating all MCMO events. Ambitious runners who seek to earn this coveted title and exclusive medal in 2023 must register and complete one live event of the following tiers:
- Tier One: Marine Corps 17.75K on March 25
- Tier Two: One of the Marine Corps Historic Half events (the half marathon, Semper 5ive or Devil Dog Double) on May 21
- Tier Three: Quantico 12K on August 26
- Tier Four: One of the MCM Weekend events (MCM, MCM10K or MCM50K) on October 29
- Tier Five: Turkey Trot 10K on November 18
Semper Fidelis Challenge
The Semper Fidelis Challenge will return in 2023 but with a new twist. More information is forthcoming!
Trifecta
With the offering of virtual events again in 2023, daring runners can go for the MCM trifecta by completing all three MCM Weekend events (MCM, MCM10K and MCM50K). In order to receive the commemorative challenge coin, participants must complete either the MCM or the MCM50K live on October 29 and finish the other two events virtually between October 1 and November 10.
Celebrate An Anniversary
MCM50K
October 29, 2023 will mark the fifth anniversary for the country’s largest urban ultramarathon, the MCM50K. Following all of the MCM course, the MCM50K adds additional mileage in Georgetown before continuing through the National Mall and finishing at the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. In 2022, the MCM50K was the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Eastern Region Ultra Championship. Learn more about the MCM50K here.
