MCM runner Vincent Carrano, then Marine Infantry corporal, was serving with the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment deployed to Afghanistan when they experienced heavy fighting and the unimaginable loss of many fellow Marines.
The running community is close-knit with runners often willing to lend a hand to one another with camaraderie on display from local races to international competitions. The running spirit is also alive and well throughout the industry. Most recently, Brooks, proud MCM shoe/apparel sponsor, helped the Houchin family of runners “re-gear” their father -- a lifelong runner whose clothes were torn as he experienced a massive heart attack during a running event in March.
The Faughts will be among 600 Tri athletes coming from 21 states and Washington, D.C. as well as Canada and Australia to participate. Together, they will endure a 750-meter open swim, 12.4-mile bike and 5k run that will occur on the grounds of Quantico’s Officer Candidate School (OCS) and in the waters of the Potomac River.

The 42nd Marine Corps Marathon will feature a course familiar to those that previously participated in the annual event hosted in Arlington, VA and the nation’s capital. After making a series of adjustments to the 26.2 mile course last year necessitated by the Metro system’s extensive SafeTrack repair program, the MCM will revert to a course utilized in 2016 that received favorable reviews from runners.
While thousands will participate in the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon in Arlington, VA and throughout the nation’s capital on October 22, hundreds will run MCM Forward while deployed overseas. Since 2006, MCM Forward has been held on Marine Corps and joint military bases, and on U.S. Navy ships deployed worldwide. This year, MCM Forward will occur in at least nine locations in the Middle East, Africa and Western Europe. Some of the areas include Iraq, Jordan, the UAE and Portugal.
The MCM Health & Fitness Expo, annually held in the national capital region each October, has been nominated for the Trade Show News Network’s prestigious “Best of Show” Award. While the MCM is among five trade shows selected for the top honor, it is the only show nominated within the running and endurance industry.
As a result of your participation in the shoe return, the MCMO yielded 324 pairs of running shoes. The shoes will go to a facility that grinds them down for materials used to create state-of-the-art running tracks, playgrounds, gyms and weight rooms, and other surfaces used for sport.

The tenth Historic Half Weekend begins for all participants the same way—with a visit to the biggest Healthy Lifestyle Expo ever.
