Athletes will be swimming, biking and running on Marine Corps Base Quantico on August 20, as part of the Quantico Tri. When the event moved its swim portion from the pool to the Potomac in 2015, an entirely new course was introduced, as the roadways and trails around Officer Candidate School were employed. With so much real estate locked on for the Tri, the MCM decided to double down by creating a run-only event on the same morning and unveiling the Quantico 12K. Runners can now register to run 7.45 miles through the newly introduced course at OCS. Finishers receive a themed medal. Additionally, the Quantico 12K is part of the Distinguished Participant challenge. Runners earn a special multi-event medal by finishing either the Historic Half or Semper 5ive in May; Run Amuck in June; the 12K or Tri in August; and the Turkey Trot in November.
