Run with the Marines has never been more meaningful. The Quantico 12K happens on the grounds of Officer Candidates School (OCS). The 7.46-mile run offers unique access to the training area for future Marine leaders.
Event Day Safety
To prepare for participation in live, in-person MCMO events, please note the following mitigation strategies intended to protect runners, Marines and staff:
Under new and updated guidance, runners that are fully vaccinated, and had the last shot over two weeks before event day, are no longer required to wear a mask.
For those runners not fully vaccinated, you are required to wear the mask upon arrival until starting the run then immediately after crossing the finish line. Participants may remove their masks during the run and runners may consider wearing a mask when approaching the proximity of other individuals. When wearing masks, runners are instructed to follow these guidelines:
- Masks must cover nose and mouth
- Bandanas and valved masks are not allowed
- A mask will be available at the finish line
Compliance supports the safety of all individuals at the events.
Runners will begin the 7.46-mile journey, on Floyd Lane near the OCS Chow Hall and the Candidates’ parking. The Quantico 12K will head west on what becomes Engineer Road once entering the OCS trails. Terrain will switch from paved streets to gravely paths. The 12K begins a 140-foot climb to its maximum elevation of 219 feet starting at the half-mile mark and leveling off 1.5 miles into the run. Making a left onto Iwo Jima Trail runners will reach the first of three water points on the course just before mile 2. A slight downhill from Mile 3 to 4.5 features a 70-foot elevation drop before another short climb. The second water point is located after scenic Buffalo Pond the furthest point in the course near mile 5. From this location, runners will follow Engineer Road and begin to overlap with the run portion of the Quantico Tri and include the final water point as part of a two-mile downhill. The course makes a left as runners pass the OCS Obstacle Course, before making two quick right turns on the way to the finish line located on the grassy PT field.
There will be 3 water points for this course. Water points will be located along the course near the following locations.
- WP 1 - Iwo Jima trail (Mile 2.3)
- WP 2 – Buffalo Pond Road near Engineering Rd (Mile 4.8)
- WP 3 – Engineer Road (Mile 7)
There will be no baggage area offered for this event. Runners are encouraged to store any gear in their cars. We recommend that all participants arrive with plenty of time to spare, so you can drop off any baggage at your vehicle and prepare yourself for running
The Quantico 12K will begin at 7:00 a.m. At the start, runners will launch in groupings based on latest social distancing standards and protocols. Be sure to give yourself enough time to park and get to the start line
All participants will enjoy hospitality to include beverages and recovery snacks while visiting the Finish Festival booths and activities.
The top Quantico 12K male and female finisher will be presented unique Marine Corps awards. Awards will be given on event day.
In accordance with Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCBQ) policy, all runners, volunteers, spectators and sponsors requiring access to the base for the MCM Event Series must have an approved ID and be registered into the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), prior to being allowed on base.
