Annually, the MCM Kids Run welcomes 3,600 young runners to the Pentagon’s parking lot for a one-mile fun run. While some register with siblings, many register with classmates as part of the Healthy School initiative. The MCM coordinates group registration with interested schools to bring crowds of student to participate in this healthy endeavor. The five schools with the largest numbers of participating students win the Healthy School Awards presented by Sodexo.
In February, the MCM recognized the grassroots efforts of two Arlington County schools that resulted in more than 600 students participating in the 2016 Kids Run. At the Arlington County School Board Meeting, MCM Director Rick Nealis presented MCM Kids Run medals to the Taylor Elementary School and Claremont Immersion School group coordinators and faculty members. Sodexo, the proud Kids Run hospitality sponsor, awarded the schools a $1000 grant to the PE department. Also, presented was a recognition plaque for display in the schools, an MCM children’s book for the library, and gift cards from the Silver Diner.
