The Semper Fi Challenge sold out in November 2019. Over 4,000 runners signed up for the two-event challenge that includes both the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon hosted in Fredericksburg, Virginia and the Marine Corps Marathon. Entrants chose to register for either the Historic Half or the Devil Dog Double on May 17, 2020 and for the MCM or the MCM50K on October 25, 2020. Completion of events on both dates is required to earn the medal.

In honor of the 45th anniversary, the entry fee for the MCM has been reduced by 4.5% from 2019. The Challenge fee was determined by the mix of events selected by the registrant. The MCM reduction will be included in the final cost of the Challenge.

After registering, some runners are unable to participate in the MCM or they may wish to switch their registration to a different MCM Weekend event. These runners may opt to transfer their entry to a non-registered runner through the MCM Transfer Program. Additionally, the transfer program offers registered runners the opportunity to switch between MCM Weekend events. The MCM is not responsible for identifying individuals for the transfer. Often, runners are able to connect via the MCM Facebook page. A fee is associated with this service. Transfers may be executed any time after a runner is offically registered.

The deferment program affords runners the opportunity to push a current entry to the next year's marathon. By forgoing participation the current year’s MCM and deferring an entry to the following year, the runner will receive a guaranteed spot for the selected year event and can avoid the Lottery process. For 2020, there is a $30 fee (reduced from $80) associated with this service. Any additional purchases made at the time of the initial MCM registration including Carbo Dining-in tickets are not eligible to be deferred to a future registration. MCM10K bibs and any virtual events may not be deferred. The deferment program will close in September 2020.
