It’s the greatest half in history! Run through historic Fredericksburg from the retail hub of Central Park, through quaint downtown shops and restaurants, up Hospital Hill to a finish line bathed in stars and stripes. It’s a 13.1 mile journey with support from the U.S. Marines.
On the same morning as the Marine Corps Historic Half, the Semper 5ive starts in downtown Fredericksburg, scales Hospital Hill and crosses the same finish as the Half. Finishers receive a unique and patriotic medal. All participants get a technical shirt and commemorative bib.
Devil Dog Double
Double the challenge and conquer the Semper 5ive AND Marine Corps Historic Half: the Devil Dog Double, a one day, two event combination with three medals.

Semper Fidelis Challenge
You can once again conquer the Semper Fidelis Challenge in 2022! Runners who successfully complete the following LIVE events will be eligible:
- Marine Corps Historic Half (MCHH) or the Devil Dog Double on May 22, 2022
- Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) or MCM50K on October 30, 2022.
Finishers will receive an exclusive Semper Fidelis Challenge medal, in addition to the individual race medals, upon completion of the MCM or MCM50K.
For this year, runners will register individually for each race. Registration for the MCHH Events opens on December 1, 2021 and registration for the MCM Weekend Events opens on February 16, 2022. Deferred registrations will count toward the challenge as long as the runner finishes the live event in 2022. The Marine Corps Marathon Organization will track who qualifies for the challenge in-house.
Sponsored by VA Runner, local running specialty store, the Distinguished Participant medal will be presented to runners who have participated in four specific events in 2022 including:

- Crossroads Trail 15K or Belleau Wood 8K in June
- Quantico 12K in August
- And the Turkey Trot 10K or Mile in November.
The Distinguished Participant medal, recognizing a year-long commitment to running with the Marines, is awarded to qualified runners after they finish the Turkey Trot in November.
Among the registered runners for Historic Half Weekend are the more than 100 members of the Iron Mile Company. These individuals have participated in every Historic Half since 2008.
