Following the guidance of government and health officials, the 2020 Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend events, scheduled for Friday, May 15 through Sunday, May 17 have been cancelled to support the wellbeing of the running community, residents, Marines and partners.

Purpose: To register, acknowledge and promote participation in Marine Corps Marathon Organization events. Information is used to plan, organize, coordinate and execute the events and communicate with the runners and volunteers before, during and after the event to include publication of finisher results, finisher certificates and race photographs, videos and motion pictures. Data and photographs, videotape, motion pictures and other recordings may be used by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization and its select sponsors for surveys, publications on websites, race programs and promotions, newspaper articles, newsletters and other race marketing purposes and runner enhancements.
Routine Uses: Information is accessed by Marine Corps Marathon Organization personnel with a need to know to meet the purpose. Information may be provided to television, online and print media to provide publicity on the Marine Corps Marathon Organization events and to selected sponsors approved by the Marine Corps Marathon Organization. A refund on registration fees will not be provided. The MCMO has prioritized rewarding the loyalty of registered runners while offering alternative solutions for runners to participate in Historic Half Weekend.
Beginning April 3, those currently registered for Historic Half Weekend can:
- Defer entry into next year’s Historic Half Weekend on May 16, 2021 with no additional fees. Runners who defer to 2021 are eligible to re-register for the 2020 virtual event (at fees detailed below).
- Transfer to virtual option. Complete a run of the distance of your choosing (5 miles, 13.1 miles or 18.1 miles) and receive participant shirt, finisher medal and certificate, as well as the new Motigo Historic Half Audio Experience.
The deadline to defer and register for virtual participation is May 16, 2020. Further instructions will be sent to the e-mail address provided by participants during registration.
All currently registered runners will receive a 30% LOYALTY discount on registration for any new and remaining 2020 MCM Event Series date, including the MCHH Virtual Run, the MCM10K or the MCM Kids Run during MCM Weekend in October. Registered runners who defer to 2021 may apply this discount to the new Historic Half virtual option. Discount codes will be sent directly via e-mail.
New! Virtual Run
Historic Half Weekend Virtual Open is available to ANYONE motivated to complete the Half, Semper5ive or Devil Dog Double. Virtual entry fee is $28 for Historic Half and Semper 5ive; $35 for Devil Dog Double; and includes the shipping and handling of the participant shirt, finisher medal and certificate and the Motigo Historic Half Audio Experience. Registration deadline to participate in a Virtual Historic Half Weekend event is May 16, 2020.
The deferment program affords runners the opportunity to push a current entry to the next year's Historic Half Weekend hosted on May 16, 2021. The deadline to defer participation is May 16, 2020.
Transfter to virtual option. Complete a run of the distance of your choosing (5 miles, 13.1 miles or 18.1 miles) and receive participant shirt, finisher medal and certificate, as well as the new Motigo Historic Half Audio Experience. The deadline to transfer to virtual participation is May 16, 2020.
After registering, some runners determine they are unable to participate in the Historic Half or desire to switch to a shorter distance event. These runners may opt to transfer their entry to a non-registered runner or change events through the Transfer Program. Runners often find transfer partners on the MCM Facebook page. Additionally, the transfer program offers registered runners the opportunity to switch between Historic Half Weekend events.

Semper Fi Challenge
Registration is now closed for the Semper Fi Challenge.
COVID-19 Update: Runners who registered for the Semper Fi Challenge may defer the Half portion of the Challenge to 2021. In choosing deferment, runners will be removed from the Challenge. To remain eligible to earn the Challenge medal, runners must transfer to the virtual option. The MCM entry will be not impacted by any decisions runners make regarding the Half entry. Runners retain rights to the MCM entry regardless of the preferred Half option. Runners must decide to shift to virtual participation by May 16, 2020.
In partnership with Always Advancing and sponsored by VA Runner, local running specialty store, the Distinguished Participant medal will be presented to runners who have participated events on four specific events, either in person or virtual, during 2020 including:
- Historic Half events (13.1, Semper 5ive or Devil Dog Double);
- Run Amuck, Belleau Wood 8K or Recon Ruck ;
- The Quantico Duathlon or Quantico 12K ;
- And the Turkey Trot 10K in November.
The Distinguished Participant medal, recognizing a year-long commitment to running with the Marines, is awarded to qualified runners after they finish the Turkey Trot in November.
Among the registered runners for Historic Half Weekend are the more than 100 members of the Iron Mile Company. These individuals have participated in every Historic Half since 2008.
COVID-19 Update: If you are one of the Iron Milers and wish to maintain your streak, you must either participate virtually. Deferring until 2021 will result in the end of your streak.
