The 43rd Marine Corps Marathon will debut a new way for participants to Beat the Bridge located at Mile 21. Void of spectators, the bridge connects the nation's capital to Arlington and has been portrayed as both, mentally and physically challenging. In an attempt to energize and fuel runners, the MCM will introduce water monsters on the bridge.

It was remarkable.” One hundred years ago at the Battle of Belleau Wood in France, Mary Wright Baylor’s Great Uncle, Marine Corps Corporal Richard Rose, lost his life in service to his country. On June 23, Mary attended the Belleau Wood 8K aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico to honor Richard.

As a retired U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel, he honors the sacrifice and heroics of the Marines who fought in the Battle by participating in the Belleau Wood 8K with his wife, Dixie Wood.

Your favorite grocery departments moved from the shelves to the streets as a group of Wegmans employees participated in the Marine Corps Historic Half. Runners from Wegmans bakery, seafood, deli and produce departments traded running down the aisles for pushing along the pavement of the Fredericksburg, VA-based 13.1 mile course.

Chet-Tyler Cary of Fredericksburg, Va. surprised his girlfriend, Amanda Willging, at the finish line of the 2018 Marine Corps Historic Half by getting down on one knee and proposing. Willing, who turned 27 last week, was completely surprised and responded with an emotional "yes." Willging was overwhelmed with the moment, having just finished her fifth Historic Half in 2:38:02.

Photo tributes of Marine leaders throughout history will be intermingled with images of Marines shared by participants as a way of honoring the service of a loved one. Runners can nominate their Marine or Marines by posting a photo on the MCM Facebook page and sharing that Marine’s inspirational story.

After 66 years, the Mameluke Sword of Colonel James Fowler, founder of the MCM, returned to Marine Corps Base Quantico. The Mameluke Sword is the official sword for Marine Officers. Fowler’s sword will be on display in the lobby of Fowler Hall along with other artifacts, awards and collectables that follow Fowler and the event he founded more than four decades ago.
