In February, the MCM recognized the grassroots efforts of two Arlington County schools that resulted in more than 600 students participating in the 2016 Kids Run. At the Arlington County School Board Meeting, MCM Director Rick Nealis presented MCM Kids Run medals to the Taylor Elementary School and Claremont Immersion School group coordinators.
Registration opens on Friday, February 17 at 11 a.m. for the 1775K. In 2016, registration sold out in minutes. So while getting into the event is a challenge, finishing it is an even bigger accomplishment. Really, every step of the way for these runners, all the way to the Marine Corps War Memorial at the 42nd MCM, offers feelings of success.
The presentation of medals at the finish line of the Marine Corps Marathon has been considered by runners to be the most humbling and memorable moment of the entire experience. After crossing the finish line, runners receive deserving recognition from a member of the United States Marine Corps in the shadow of the US Marine Corps War Memorial. For an awesome moment like this, only an awesome medal will do.

Remember the exhilarating feeling of riding a roller coaster, rolling to a stop and being overtaken by excitement to do it all over again. That, dear runners, is the essence of the Devil Dog Double. The Marine Corps Historic Half to be held in Fredericksburg, Virginia on May 21, 2017 boasts the most infamous on-course ascension of any half marathon. It even has its own name--Hospital Hill.
The MCM is a well known destination run for motivated individuals from across the country and around the world. They appreciate the historic sites, the display of American pride and the opportunity to interact with the United States Marines. They also seek to conquer the hill that resides just before the finish line at the Marine Corps War Memorial. The Marine Corps Historic Half shares these attributes and makes a perfect spring weekend getaway for an ideal half marathon in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Another year gone by and its again time to establish resolutions. What successes were achieved in 2016? What prompted the shortcomings? Were goals met? Chances are the mission for the new year will include being healthy, active and fit and what better motivating force than the United States Marine Corps.
In the weeks following “The People’s Marathon,” the MCM combs through all split times and finisher data to confirm results and validate the age awards. At the conclusion of this process, the database is deemed official and finisher certificates are made available to MCM participants. And that time is now.
These are the formative weeks, when individuals develop resolutions to guide actions and intentions in the upcoming, new year. Physical fitness and pursuit of a healthy lifestyle should always be paramount to one's initiatives. Make the 42nd Marine Corps Marathon and the other MCM-organized events part of the plan for 2017.
Like the autumn holiday its hitched too, the Turkey Trot 10K has its own set of traditions. Hosted aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Saturday, November 19, the 10K and accompanying one-mile dash will feature the most festive, Thanksgiving-themed event shirts yet again. Past participants have been adorned in apparel featuring an over-sized turkey sketch, a running Thanksgiving dinner and 'be the Turkey' art.
