On September 14, the new “Semper Progredi Trail” was dedicated behind MCM world headquarters at Fowler Hall aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Semper Progredi translated is “Always Forward.” The .35 mile trail was created with hard work by Boy Scout Troop 1145 under the direction of Boy Scout Aeris Taylor, of Springfield, VA, who created the trail for his Eagle Scout Project.
The Boy Scouts, ages 12-17, spent about 20 hours over a two-week period clearing and constructing the trail that consists of fresh wood chips and a pedestrian bridge made from repurposed materials. The trail also line lined with fallen trees and includes a few weather-proof benches within its serene setting.
Taylor is a 17-year-old senior at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, MD.
“It’s a great feeling to have done this, especially when you know the community can enjoy this from now on,” says Taylor.
Taylor’s initiative grew into model community service project that includes environmental preservation and historical significance, as many of the trees have been identified and labeled throughout the new trail by Quantico’s Forestry Branch.
