To help runners prepare for this year’s MCM virtual races, and for future running & walking events, MedStar Health, proud MCM sports medicine sponsor, is pleased to provide each MCM Weekend participant with a MedStar Health exercise band. Runners should look for the bands in the packets they will receive in the mail. Featured items in the packet include the official participant shirt and finisher medal. Now, let’s take a few minutes to work on the strength training with your new MedStar Health exercise band. We want you to get the most out of each exercise.

How do you prepare for a running event? Although we can't train or run together, MedStar Health wants to help you cross the virtual finish line. Likely, you log your miles, think about your attire, plan the logistics to get to and from the event. But, in the early stages of training, are you thinking about your strength?

Evidence shows that strength training can improve running performance. Use these running specific exercises with your exercise band.

Is it safe to use an exercise band? Yes, using the MedStar Health exercise band for strength training is safe for most runners. If you have any known medical conditions, check with your physician or physical therapist prior to initiating a strength training program. Don’t forget you should never hold your breath during strength training.

Share videos or pictures using your MedStar Health exercise band, so feel free to tag @MedStarHealth if you post on social media.

MedStar Health is available to runners before, during, and after the MCM. If you are experiencing pain related to running, you can call 888-44-SPORT to schedule an in-person evaluation or a video visit with one of the MedStar Health sports medicine providers.
