Beginning Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, the Marine Corps Marathon will open the Semper Fi Challenge to runners who just can’t resist running with the Marines. Semper Fi Challenge participants will wear a unique bib and receive a special Semper Fi Challenge medal at the finish line of the 45h MCM after completing events in May and October 2020. The Challenge medal will be awarded in addition to a very special MCM finisher medal planned for 2020.
The Semper Fi Challenge is a new registration path that guarantees MCM entry for up to 4,000 runners when they sign up for the two-event challenge that includes both the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon hosted in Fredericksburg, Virginia and the Marine Corps Marathon. Entrants can register for either the Historic Half or the Devil Dog Double on May 17, 2020 and for the MCM or the MCM50K on October 25, 2020. Completion of events on both dates is required to earn the medal.
During the recent MCM Weekend, the event broke with tradition and announced design features for next year’s MCM finisher medal. Actual volcanic ash, often referred to as black sand, will be contained inside next year’s medal to commemorate the illustrious tradition of “The Peoples Marathon.” The design for the Semper Fi Challenge medal has not been revealed.
In honor of the 45th anniversary, the entry fee for the MCM has been reduced by 4.5% from 2019. The Challenge fee will be determined by the mix of events selected by the registrant. The MCM reduction will be included in the final cost of the Challenge.
Registration opens on Nov. 1, and closes on Nov. 11 or when all entries are purchased.
