chip timing
The Marine Corps Marathon uses the ChampionChip© to record finish times.
Each runner will receive a ChampionChip© to run the race. If a runner has a personal chip, please supply this information on the MCM entry form during registration. No discounts are available for providing your own chip. Awards will be determined by using the chip time. To buy your own MCM ChampionChip© click here. Runners will be provided a single-use commemorative ChampionChip as part of their race packet.
ChampionChip© assignment and verification will occur during Packet Pick-Up at the DC Armory, Washington DC. Please fasten the ChampionChip© with the strip provided with the chip.
The ChampionChip© is a small timing device attached to runners’ shoelaces. Chips are non-transferable and must be worn only by the participant to whom it is assigned. It records the time automatically as you run across the start/finish lines and other various mats spread throughout the course.
It ensures true start time, provides accurate results, and a free flowing finish line. Additionally, it provides protection from "bandit" runners or cheaters and the Boston Marathon will accept chip times as qualifying times.
