Runners Conference

MCM Weekend hosts a series of free workshops on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. Hear from expert individuals and panels who will inform, educate, motivate and inspire in preparation for the MCM. The MCM Runners Conference is hosted in conjunction with the MCM Health & Fitness Expo and is conveniently just steps away from the expo hall. Review the schedule, plan your trip to the Expo and set aside the time to attend one or more MCM Runners Conference sessions.

MCM Runners Conference sessions are free, however, due to the limited space, runners and guests must pre-register for each event. Attendees may choose multiple sessions, but must register separately for each.


The Runners Conference begins Friday at noon with MCM Talks, an exciting opportunity for runners to present their inspirational reason for participating in the MCM. The first session is by the runners, for the runners.

MCM sponsor MedStar Sports Medicine will host the second session at 1:15 p.m. as Dr. Ankit Shah presents a cardiologists tips on running the MCM. Join him for The Heart of a Champion - A Sports Cardiologist's thoughts for the MCM Participant.

The MCM Final Prep session at 2:30 p.m. will address MCM-specific topics to help runners to best navigate participation in "The People's Marathon." The expert panel includes Michelle Weinstein, USN Ret., MCM Medical Operations officer; nutritional tips from the Beef Checkoff Program, and representatives from longtime MCM partners, Brooks and Clif Bar.

Friday concludes with the exciting opportunity for runners to ask the MCMO Director, Rick Nealis. Rick will be available to address runners from 3:45 – 5 p.m. Be sure to thank him for that final approach to the Marine Corps War Memorial.

Saturday sessions begin with a second opportunity to benefit from MedStar Sports Medicine expertise as Daniel Black, MS, CSC, exercise physiologist, presents Special Strength Training for Runners.

MCM Talks will host a new group of inspirational runners speaking in the 1:15 p.m. session.

The Runners Conference concludes with a panel of Runners World experts who will offer tips on how participants can run their best MCM yet.
