Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend in Fredericksburg, VA kicks off with the Healthy Lifestyle Expo featuring Packet Pick-up on May 18-19, 2018.
Healthy Lifestyle Expo
All journeys through Fredericksburg during Historic Half Weekend begin at the Healthy Lifestyle Expo. More than 20,000 runners, supporters and fitness enthusiasts stroll through the Expo to visit 60+ booths featuring apparel, exercise, food, health and military appreciation.
Free and open to the public, the Healthy Lifestyle Expo is May 18 from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 7:00 p.m. and May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center (2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA 22401).
Come celebrate the Marine Corps Historic Half’s tenth anniversary at a special breakfast event on Saturday, May 19 inside the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center ballroom, adjacent to the Healthy Lifestyle Expo.
The breakfast buffet is open to any 2017 participant and a guest at a cost of just $15 per person.
The breakfast includes guest speaker Bart Yasso, Chief Running Officer of Runner’s World, who will be making his first appearance at the event just prior to his retirement. Yasso will provide tips for running your best Historic Half and for conquering the infamous “Hospital Hill.” Yasso is one of a few who have completed marathons on every continent and is a fantastic speaker ready to motivate runners!
This festive gathering will commemorate the Historic Half as the “best half marathon in history” while recognizing the impressive Iron Mile Company, comprised of 135 runners who have participated in each Historic Half since the event began in 2008.
On Sunday, May 20, the five mile distance run hosts 2,000 runners on a journey from the quaint Fall Hill neighborhood, past downtown historical sites, inviting cafes, unique museums and lovely boutiques before arriving at Hospital Hill on the way to the impressive Historic Half finish line. All participants receive a technical short sleeve shirt. Finishers are awarded an impressive medal featuring an original design inspired by the Historic Half Weekend theme.
Devil Dog Double
In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Marine Corps Historic Half in 2017, runners will be able to “go for two” and scale Hospital Hill twice in one morning by participating in both, the five mile Semper 5ive and, then, the 13.1 mile Historic Half on Sunday, May 20, 2018.
Devil Dog Double participants will begin the morning at the start of the Semper 5ive in downtown Fredericksburg at 6:40 a.m. Runners must complete the five miler and cross the finish line by 7:2 a.m. before immediately turning around and beginning the Historic Half. The 13.1 mile course remains open until 11 a.m. A maximum pace of nine minutes-per-mile for the Semper 5ive portion of the challenge is required to participate.
