Marine Corps Marathon to Award 500,000 Finisher
December 8, 2014
While completing his first marathon at the 39th MCM, Washington, D.C. runner Joshua Moscow, 23, made an enduring mark on the event, becoming the 500,000th finisher in MCM history. Moscow was the 7,320th runner to cross the finish line at the Marine Corps War Memorial on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Runners Gobble up Turkey Trot 10K as High School Coach Captures Consecutive Wins
November 22, 2014
Capturing his second consecutive win, Fredericksburg, VA's Stephen Harrison led 978 runners to the finish of the Turkey Trot 10K on Mairne Corps Base Quantico today during the cold, crisp autumn morning. Harrison, 26, easily defended his title, winning the Turkey Trot 10K with a five-minute lead over the field of participants hailing from 19 states and Washington, D.C. Harrison completed this year's Turkey Trot in 33:56, just shy of his win last year at 32:26.

U.S. Army Claims Big Wins at 39th Marine Corps Marathon
October 26, 2014
The U.S. Army captured first-place wins at the 39th MCM in both individual and team categories. Army Spc Samuel Kosgei, 30, of Junction City, KS ran 26.2 miles in 2:22:12, finishing first among 19,661 total participants. Army Capt. Meghan Curran, 38, of Moorestown, NJ completed her first-place run in 2:51:47. The U.S. Army elite Running Team also beat out the competition in the Armed Forces Challenge, a friendly rivalry between military service branches.

Actor Sean Astin to Start and Run 39th MCM
October 20, 2014
Actor Sean Astin, best known for his title role as "Rudy," and for his recurring role in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will start and run the 39th MCM on Sunday, Oct. 26 in Arlington, VA. Astin, who currently stars in "The Strain" on the FX Networks, will join the U.S. Marines and thousands of participants to run his first MCM.

Medal of Honor Recipient to Skydive into 39th MCM
October 1, 2014
Medal of Honor recipient and retired U.S. Marine Cpl. William Kyle Carpenter will accompany 11 parachutists in the skies over Arlington, VA on Sunday, Oct. 26 to deliver a 7,800 sqare-foot American flag at the start of the 39th MCM. Carpenter, who received the Medal of Honor for saving a fellow Marine during the Global War on Terrorism, will skydive in tandem. After skydiving, Carpenter will embark on his second consecutive MCM, joining hundreds of marathoners participating with the Semper Fi Fund, a MCM Charity Partner dedicated to assisting wounded service members.

Marine Corps Historic Half Trends Popular

Boasting a runner tracking service that distributed timing results electronically and a robust social media campaign, the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon held during the weekend of May 16-18 in Fredericksburg, VA reached over half million individuals. The event hosted 7,545 runners in three distance events including the Historic Half marathon, Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K.

Fredericksburg, VA Runner Sets Record at Second-Largest Historic Half
May 18, 2014
It has been an epic day at the Marine Corps Historic half in Fredericksburg, VA with two course records set and the second-most finishers (6,020) in the event's seven-year history. Local runner and Historic Half record holder Tim Young crossed the finish in 1:05:09, break his own record of 1:06:57. Erika Weidman, 23 of Alexandria, VA also broke the women's Historic 10K course record by six seconds as she completed today's event in 44:28. The Historic Half, Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K started simultaneously at 7 a.m. with cheering spectators lining each course. Together, the three events garnered a total of 7,545 finishers.

The Marine Corps Marathon has sold all available Active Duty and Reserve discounted entries in just one hour. A limited number of 2,000 entries were available through a partnership with GEICO for military members currently serving on Active Duty or in the Reserve. Military members who registered for the 39th MCM during this period received a 15 percent discount off the full registration cost of $110, paying $93.50.

The Marine Corps 17.75K offers Guaranteed Access to the 39th Marine Corps Marathon for all those who complete the event in Prince William County, VA. Runners from three countries, 35 states and the District of Columbia are registered to run the event on April 12.

MCM Yields $88 Million For Local Economies

The MCM, third largest in the United States, is a robust source of tourism dollars yielding $88 million in money spent throughout Arlington, VA and Washington, DC, according to an economic impact study conducted by Towson University's Regional Economic Studies Institute. The study, "Economic and Fiscal Impact Analysis of the 2013 Marine Corps Marathon," was conducted following MCM Weekend, held Oct. 24-27, 2013.
