MCM10K

Participants in the MCM10K (6.2 miles) will join MCM runners along the streets of the nation’s capital and finish at the iconic Marine Corps War Memorial in Rosslyn, VA. The start is located at the intersection of 12th St and Jefferson Dr on the National Mall. Just one mile into the race the course crosses the Potomac River into Crystal City and finishes parallel to the Marine Corps Marathon. Opening festivities begin at 7:50 a.m. with the start at 8:00 a.m. Wheelchair and hand cycle participants will be stationed at the front of the corrals for the start.
The USATF-certified MCM10K course will follow the marathon course across the 14th Street Bridge into Crystal City. There, the MCM10K course diverts from the marathon by making a left onto 15th Street. After arriving at the Pentagon, MCM10K runners will complete their 6.2 miles in parallel to the MCM, finishing at the Marine Corps War Memorial.
REGISTRATION  The $45 registration fee includes a goodie bag, race materials including bib and race program, and MCM10K mock neck shirt. Finishers will receive a medal and plenty of post-race replenishment in the hospitality area.
Registration is now open for the MCM10K to be held on October 31, 2010.
PACKET PICK-UP MCM10K runners must retrieve their race materials at Packet Pick-up, part of the MCM Health and Fitness Expo by GE located inside the Washington Convention Center. The packet includes the participant bib with B-tag timing device. Runners must remember to bring their e-confirmation card to Packet Pick-up. If picking up packets for another runner, please have the Packet Release Form filled out, their e-confirmation card and your photo ID.

START The start of the MCM10K presented by Aetna is located at the National Mall, just outside the Smithsonian Metro station on Jefferson Drive. Participants and spectators should proceed directly to the start location, just a block away from the Smithsonian Castle. Opening festivities begin at 7:50 a.m. with the start at 8:00 a.m. Wheelchair and hand cycle participants will be stationed at the front of the corrals for the start.
Stephanie Williams, crowned the 2010 Miss District of Columbia, will perform the national anthem at the MCM10K start. She has performed in stage productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and Crazy For You, as well as with the Wagner College Treble Choir. She graduated summa cum laude from Wagner having studied Arts Administration, Biology and Chemistry. Upon completion of an internship with Johns Hopkins Medical institute and exposure to poverty stricken India, Williams began a journey aimed to help provide preventative medical treatments in areas throughout developing nations and the United States. Williams is currently a third-year medical student at the George Washington School of Medicine.
TRANSPORTATION Metro remains the most convenient means to arrive at the MCM10K start with the Smithsonian station (blue/orange) being located directly at the start. The Metro system opens at 5 a.m. on Marathon morning. There is no shuttle service to the MCM10K nor is there any designated MCM10K parking location, as road closures for the marathon will affect the area surrounding the course. Convenient post-race Metro stations are located in Rosslyn (blue/orange) and Arlington Cemetery (blue).
COURSE The USATF-certified MCM10K course will follow the marathon course across the 14th Street Bridge into Crystal City. There, the MCM10K course diverts from the marathon by making a left onto 15th Street. After arriving at the Pentagon, MCM10K runners will complete their 6.2 miles in parallel to the MCM, finishing at the Marine Corps War Memorial. Dogs, strollers and bikes are not allowed on the course to keep the runners safe. All runners will be timed using the ChronoTrack system and must finish in two hours and 10 minutes. The course includes two water points and two aid stations.
CORRALS Runners will line up by expected finish time on the start line and will be able to choose their appropriate corral on race morning.
2010 ON-COURSE SUPPORT
The MCM10K features two on-course water points that are numbered as found on MCM course, as well as post-race replenishment. Each water point offers water and POWERade energy drink.
The 2010 Water Points will be located in the following areas: Army/Navy Drive at the Eads Street auxiliary parking lot. Route 110 behind the MCM corrals.
FINISH: The hospitality area at the Finish offers a variety of nutritious replenishment to ensure recovery.
After receiving a finisher medal, runners proceed to the Hospitality Area to replenish with a variety of post-race food and drink before heading to the Finish Festival.
Runners will receive a hospitality bag including items like bagels, bananas, granola bars, Snyder's pretzels, dried fruit and bottled water. MCM10K Hospitality is coordinated by Sodexo.
AID STATIONS
The safety of MCM10K Runners is of the utmost importance to the many Navy and Civilian medical personnel on the course, throughout the day.
The 2010 Aid Stations will be located in the following areas:
Jefferson Drive and 14th Street SW. Army/Navy Drive and Eads Street working from the Fern Street Parking lot. Route 110 off ramp and North Pentagon parking lot.
Finish Area: Med A is located near the Marine Corps War Memorial. Med B is located near walkway and Netherlands Carrilon at the finish area. Med D is located near the Rosslyn Metro Station in the Finish Festival.
Information Medical personnel will track runners and record medical data to ensure timely updates to families of runners being treated. This information will be available at the MCM Info tents. Visit the Main Info tent on N. Meade Street and Hwy 50 off ramp, near the Finish Festival. The American Red Cross medical information tent will be located near the finish.
