Fredericksburg, VA Runner Wins Marine Corps Historic Half

The U.S. Marines joined U.S. Congressman Rob Wittman (R-VA) and "NCIS" television star David McCallum in hosting the second-largest Marine Corps Historic Half with 7,777 total finishers completing the Historic Half marathon, Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K events. There were 6,245 finishers in the half marathon, 821 in the 10K and 711 runners who completed the 5K distance despite humidity and 72-degree temperature and the 7 am start.

Wegmans and Navy Federal Credit Union Expand MCM Sponsorships
Runners completing the Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend events will not only be greeted by U.S. Marines at the finish but also by employees of Wegmans as the runners enjoy postevent hospitality on May 17 in Fredericksburg, VA.  Wegmans, the grocery retailer, is partnering with the Historic Half, by serving up water bottles at the finish and distributing oranges and pretzels in post-event runner hospitality. Wegmans this year has expanded its partnership to include the MCM Event Series and the 40th Marine Corps Marathon.  Conversely, the MCM’s longest sponsor, Navy Federal Credit Union, will expand its affiliation through a presenting sponsorship of this weekend’s Historic 10K.

The celebrated kickoff to Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend occurs this Friday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the publick opening of the Healthy Lifestyle Expo in Fredericksburg, VA. The free Expo includes 60 exhibitors showcasing the latest in running gear and apparel, product sampling, health screenings and services - and the Historic Half Speaker Square featuring "NCIS" actor David McCallum, known for his portrayal of Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard on the television show.

Free Shuttles Offered During Marine Corps Historic Half Event Weekend

The Marine Corps Historic Half and the City of Fredericksburg, VA will welcome thousands of participants and spectators to marine Corps Historic Half Weekend hosted from May 15-17. Road closures will only be in effect on Sunday, May 17. Free shuttle services will be offered post event for runners of the Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K and for spectators throughout Marine Corps Historic Half day.

Haymarket, VA Runner Wins Marine Corps 17.75K in Prince William County
Marine Corps 17.75K runners proved they are a hearty bunch today in Prince William County, VA where both morning temperatures and wind speeds were at a brisk 30 degrees at 7 a.m. as they took off running Prince William Forest Park. Even the cold could not keep runners from their mission to complete the 11.03-mile event and obtain "Access Granted" to the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM).

Quantico Tri Introduces Open-Water Swim for August Event
There's no better way to fend the winter blues than to prepare for summertime activity. The Quantico Tri, opening Feb. 25 for online registration, is introducing a new open-water swim as part of this year's event that will be held Aug. 22 on Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. In celebration of this open-water event the Tri will provide seaweed in post-event hospitality and also, for the first time, present finisher medals.

MCM Captures Gold Certification for Environmental Initiatives
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has received Gold certification, the highest level awarded by the Council for Responsible Sport for being socially and environmentally responsible as a world-class running event. The MCM has been recognized for enacting best practices during the 39th MCM held on Oct. 25, 2014. The MCM earned 45 credits to become the largest marathon to earn this distinction among environmentally-conscious sporting events.

Now is the time to register Run With the Marines at the celebrated Marine Corps Historic Half on May 17 as registration for the event will increase by $20 beginning Feb. 1. Historic Half registration is available for $60 at www.marinemarathon.com for all (age 10 and above) but will increase starting Sunday. The distinctive Marine Corps Historic Half is located in Fredericksburg, VA halfway between the nation's capital and the Commonwealth's capital of Richmond.
