OVER 7.700 RUNNERS CROSS MARINE CORPS HISTORIC HALF FINISH
On a misty but warm morning, 7,781 runners energized the City of Fredericksburg, VA as part of the inaugural Historic 10K, the Semper Fred 5K and the largest Marine Corps Historic Half to date. Joining them was Actor Sean Astin, star of "Rudy" and "Lord of the Rings," who completed the Marine Corps Historic Half in 2:11:58. Astin served as honorary starter for the thousands of runners who came to Fredericksburg to take on the 13.1 mile challenge highlighted by the steep incline up infamous Hospital Hill, located on the Marine Washington Healthcare campus.

QUANTICO TRIATHLON SELLS OUT
The MCM continues its trend of record-breaking registration with the sellout of the inaugural Quantico Triathlon in just one day. The sprint distance triathlon will feature a 400-meter swim, 9-mile cycle course, and 5K run all aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Sunday, August 18 beginning at 7:00 a.m.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE EXPO KICKS OFF HISTORIC HALF WEEKEND ON MAY 17
Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend begins this Friday, May 17 with the opening of the Healthy Lifestyle Expo presented by Hyundai Hope On Wheels. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Historic Half participants and visitors will gather outside the Expo & Conference Center to enjoy the grand opening event with military pageantry and prizes just before the Expo doors open at 4:00 p.m. This year's Expo offers even more in modern fitness apparel and gear, cooking and Zumba demonstrations, free sampling of nutritional products and the two-day Historic Half Speaker Series. The Healthy Lifestyle Expo, held at 2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway in Fredericksburg, VA is open free to the public with on-site paring available.

LORD OF RINGS STAR TO START AND RUN HISTORIC HALF ON MAY 19
Film actor Sean Astin and NBC4 meteorologist Chuck Bell will join U.S. Marines and 10,000 participants at the Marine Corps Historic Half on Sunday, May 19 in Fredericksburg, VA. Accomplished long distance runners, Astin and Bell will serve as official starters with Bell sending off the wheelchair and hand cycle participants at 6:59 a.m., and Astin firing the starting pistol for the Historic Half at 7 a.m. Both will then take off to run the 13.1 mile course.

RUN AMUCK INTRODUCES NEW CHALLENGES TO JUNE 8 EVENT ON MCB QUANTICO
There will be mud! The wildly popular Run Amuck event hosted aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Saturday, June 8, will introduce a new snag at the start line, a finish line that emerges from the woods, and four new untamed obstacles. The 3.6 mile course boasts three messy mud pits, three punshing PT stations and 17 obstacles ranging from hurdles to water blasts.

FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE AVAILABLE FOR HISTORIC HALF EVENTS
Nearly 10,000 runners will arrive in Fredericksburg, VA to participate in three distance running events during Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend including the Marine Corps Historic Half (13.1 miles), Historic 10K (6.2 miles) and Semper Fred 5K (3.1 miles) on Sunday, May 19. Free shuttle service will be available to transport runners to each of the three start locations. All events will finish on Carl D. Silver Parkway, in Fredericksburg's Central Park.

Recognizing a dedicated community of runners who register for and finish MCM events, VA Runner, the Fredericksburg-area running specialty store, has established the Distinguished Participation Award. Runners who complete one of the three Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend events, as well as Run Amuck (June), Crossroads 4-Miler (September) and Turkey Trot 10K (November) will be presented a special participation medal for a year-long commitment to running.

MCM SURPASSES REGISTRATION RECORD
The MCM has sold all available public entries in a record 2 hours, 27 minutes today surpassing last year's record sellout by 14 minutes. But as thousands of runners worldwide attempted to register, a system failure contributed to registration delays posing additional challenges for runners wanting to secure a coveted spot for the Oct. 27 event in Arlington, VA and the nation's capital. MCM Registrations were being processed by ACTIVE Network.

"ACCESS GRANTED" TO 38TH MCM FOR 2,177 FINISHERS OF MARINE CORPS 17.75K
Despite chilly spring temperatures today, 2,177 runners met the challenge of the Marine Corps 17.75K, completeing the 11.03-mile event through the winding streets and trails of Prince William Forest Park in Prince William County, VA. Each 17.75K participant obtained "Access Granted" at the finish line, solidifying their coveted spots in th 38th Marine Corps Marathon, before registration opens to the public at noon Eastern on March 27.

New to this year's Marine Corps Historic Half, the Runners bRUNch will be held on Saturday, May 18, the day prior to Historic Half in Fredericksburg, VA. The Runners bRUNch includes a 5K shakeout run and catered brunch featuring guest speaker Chuck Engle, known as "the Marathon Junkie." Engle's enthusiasm for running comes from having completed more than 300 marathons and for earning a record 271 sub three-hour marathon finishes.

The MCM will present the Healthy School Awards to the students of Fairfax County Public School Lynbrook Elementary on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Alexandria City Public School James K. Polk Elementary on Thursday, Feb. 21. The Lynbrook ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the school's gymnasium; the James K. Polk ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. also in the school's gymnasium.

MCM OFFERS MILITARY DISCOUNT STARTING FEB. 23 FOR ACTIVE DUTY & RESERVISTS
The MCM, in partnership with GEICO, is offering a 15 percent discount for all Active Duty and Reserve military members registering for the 38th MCM that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27. The registration discount will be available online starting at noon Eastern on Feb. 23 with the savings continuing through midnight EST on March 24. Military members registering during this four-week period will pay $84.15, rather than the full registration cost of $99.
