Historic 10K, Semper Fred 5K Open Registration Feb. 25
Runners who enjoy participating in 10K and 5K distances can be part of the celebrated Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend by registering for the Historic 10K presented by Navy Federal Credit Union, or the Semper Fred 5K. Registration opens online at noon Eastern tomorrow, Feb. 25 at All Events will be hosted by the U.S. Marines in the historic City of Fredericksburg, VA on Sunday, May 17.

The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has sold all discounted entries made available to active duty and Reserve members of the military. The special discount was offered beginning Feb. 23 through a partnership with GEICO.

Quantico Tri Introduces Open-Water Swim for August Event
There's no better way to fend the winter blues than to prepare for summertime activity. The Quantico Tri, opening Feb. 25 for online registration, is introducing a new open-water swim as part of this year's event that will be held Aug. 22 on Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. In celebration of this open-water event the Tri will provide seaweed in post-event hospitality and also, for the first time, present finisher medals.

Marine Corps Marathon to Open Limited Entries for Active Duty, Reservists
Starting Feb. 23, military members serving on active duty or in the Reserve will have an opportunity to gain entry to the 40th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) with limited entries available at a discounted rate.

Marine Corps Historic Half Will Bring Big "LOVE" to Fredericksburg, VA
Runners will love to know the U.S. Marines are bringing much "LOVE" to Fredericksburg, VA home of the Marine Corps Historic Half. In partnership with Virginia Tourism Corporation and the City of Fredericksburg, the Marines will showcase LOVEworks, a giant artistic display of the word LOVE, at the Marine Corps Historic Half, celebrating the Commonwealth's motto "Virginia is for Lovers." The LOVEworks on display during Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend from May 15-17 is sure to make runners' hearts race.

MCM Captures Gold Certification for Environmental Initiatives
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has received Gold certification, the highest level awarded by the Council for Responsible Sport for being socially and environmentally responsible as a world-class running event. The MCM has been recognized for enacting best practices during the 39th MCM held on Oct. 25, 2014. The MCM earned 45 credits to become the largest marathon to earn this distinction among environmentally-conscious sporting events.

Register to 'Run With the Marines' at Historic Half
Now is the time to register Run With the Marines at the celebrated Marine Corps Historic Half on May 17 as registration for the event will increase by $20 beginning Feb. 1. Historic Half registration is available for $60 at for all (age 10 and above) but will increase starting Sunday. The distinctive Marine Corps Historic Half is located in Fredericksburg, VA halfway between the nation's capital and the Commonwealth's capital of Richmond.

Five Northern Virginia elementary schools have earned recognition as the winners of the 2014 Healthy School Award, presented by the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The award is presented to the schools with the largest student participation at the MCM Kids Run, held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014 during MCM Weekend. All repeat winners, these schools have demonstrated an on-going commitment to the importance of the physical fitness of their students.
