Healthy Kids Fun Run

The annual Marine Corps Marathon Healthy Kids Fun Run will be held on October 30, 2010 in the Pentagon North Parking Lot. Children ages 6-13 are invited to participate in the one-mile just-for-fun event. Registration will open online May 12. All participants receive a t-shirt, medal and snacks at the finish line.
Wave Start
The Healthy Kids Fun Run will be held in three waves beginning at 10:30 a.m. Parents can choose the wave in which their child will begin during the registration process, either 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. Please note that each wave is limited to 1,000 participants.

Packet Pick-Up Kids Run participants will be required to obtain their t-shirt and bib prior to the event at the Health and Fitness Expo at the Washington Convention Center. Click here to learn more. Parents and children are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign.
Course and Start Download the map of the course. Children should report to the starting area 15 minutes prior to their start time. Parents will receive their Kid Claim Coupon during check in, and will need it to retrieve children from the Link-up Area after the race.
Finish and Link-Up The Healthy Kids Fun Run is a closed course. For the safety of all participants, access to the course is limited to registered runners, MCM staff and uniformed Marines. After crossing the finish, children will receive their medal and post-race snacks. They will then be escorted to the Link-up Area. Parents can locate their children based on the last number on the child’s bib and will need their Kid Claim Coupon for children to be released from the corrals.
Transportation and Parking Parking is available at Hayes Street parking lot located at the intersection of Joyce Street and Army/Navy Drive in front of Macy's. The Pentagon Metro Station provides the easiest access to the Healthy Kids Fun Run. Shuttle services are available from the Hayes Street parking lot and the Pentagon Metro Station to the Healthy Kids Fun Run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Parents, families and runners are invited to visit Camp Miles, a free all-day activity area featuring interactive challenges and games focusing on health and fitness hosted by the National Children’s Museum. Camp Miles activities begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 p.m.

Junior League of Washington bookmark coloring activity Uber Ice free samples of healthy italian ice Madame Tussauds wax figure of a surprise celebrity Navy Federal Credit Union financial activity EagleBank Bowl football toss, National Children's Museum Healthy Food On My Mind, UV Bead Bracelets and Active and Happy Hearts activities. Activities by the Verizon Wireless and Fit and Healthy Schools.

 Congratulations to Eagle View Elementary School, Hollin Meadows Science and Math Focus School and Lynbrook Elementary School - winners of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) 2008 Healthy School Awards! The three schools with the largest student participation in the Kids Run are recognized with this annual award. This year, all three schools are from Fairfax County with Lynbrook winning for a seventh time. During February and March, each school was presented the award by the MCM staff, Marines, Miles the mascot and other guests during a special assembly.
Parents, students and faculty are encouraged to promote the importance of physical fitness within their schools. Want your school to win the 2009 MCM Healthy School Award? Now is the time to get your school excited for the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run.
Register for the October 24 Healthy Kids Fun Run in Arlington, VA. Registration form includes a field for the name of a child's school. The top three schools with the most participation will receive: *2009 Healthy Schools Award *Donation to the school’s Physical Education Department from Washington’s FAMILY Magazine *Special Program presented by the National Children’s Museum of Washington, DC *Visit and awesome assembly from the Marine Corps Marathon staff and their mascots, Miles and Molly!

 Meet Miles, the MCM mascot! Born in 2001, Miles proudly wears bib 1775 to commemorate the year the United States Marine Corps was founded. Miles loves to run and enjoys being fit and eating healthy. He’s always looking for new friends. Join Miles at the Healthy Kids Fun Run or on Marathon day, along with his furry friends from the DC area like Ned from the Washington Post, for a great run, and plenty of fun activities at Camp Miles. Meet Molly, the newest addition to the MCM family. Born in 2007, Molly proudly wears bib 1943 to commemorate the first year of women in the United States Marine Corps. Like her big brother Miles, Molly enjoys being active and eating healthy. Her favorite sport is running, and she even got to join Miles at the 2007 Healthy Kids Fun Run. Molly, one of the first female mascots, was recognized by 1-800-MASCOTS as their Mascot of the Year in 2007.
