Finishers Receive Entry to "The People's Marathon" before Registration Opens March 27
Ryan Carroll, 30, of Portsmouth, VA maintained a steady lead throughout the event becoming the first 17.75K finisher in 59:57. Jeremy Lynch, 32, of Springfield, VA finished second at 1:05:46, while Retired Marine Lt. Col. Alex Hetherington finished in 1:06:06, rounding off the top three males. Hetherington has run numerous MCMs and is a member of the MCM Hall of Fame Class of 1995.
Rachel Booth, 32 of Mandeville, LA finished first among female runners at 1:08:25. Stephanie Wagner, 39 of Lombard, IL completed her run in 1:17:49, resulting in second place.
“That was a very hilly course and a good workout,” Wagner said after she crossed the 17.75K finish. “I came here with some friends. We’re going to do the marathon in the fall. I’m from the Chicago area so I’m psyched for the Marine Corps, and really glad to be coming back here in October.”
Finishing very close behind Wagner was Jackie Morgan, 33, of Richmond, VA, who completed the event in 1:17:56, while taking third place among the top female finishers.
Representing the Masters category was top male, Joseph Blackstone, 44 of Bristow, VA who finished in 1:07:58 and top female, Jeanne MacDonald, 41 of Melrose, MA, who ran in 1:18:51.
The Marine Corps 17.75K distance honors the year the U.S. Marine Corps was founded. The event was the first in the 2013 MCM Event Series that continues in June with Run Amuck, a mud and obstacle distance challenge.
Jody Malone, a runner from Ohio obtained his guaranteed MCM entry at the 17.75K finish and pinned the “Access Granted” card to his shirt. “I’m so excited to get this entry and I’m not going to lose it,” Malone said. “I ran the MCM last year … it is the most inspirational marathon you can run!”
