The Marine Corps Marathon
Extra Mile

Welcome to The Extra Mile, the official newsletter of the Marine Corps Marathon.

The 28th Annual Marine Corps was a great success and we would like to congratulate each and every participant for committing to train for and run such a challenging event.

Hopefully by now, you have fully recovered ...your feet have stopped throbbing, your finisher's medal is proudly displayed in your home and you've already ordered the picture of your triumphant pass across the finish line. Congratulations!

Men's winner, Peter Sherry of Great Falls, VA finished with a time of 2:25:07. Heather Hanscom of Alexandria, VA led the women's race with a time of 2:37:59, coming in only 59 seconds behind the female course record. Good luck to Peter and Heather who are now headed for the Olympic Trials in February and April.

The MCM presents awards in 47 categories, handing out over 400 prizes to runners from all ages, sizes and athletic levels. Official results of this year's race will be finalized in mid-November. Finishers and award winners can expect their certificates and plaques in the mail in December. The 2003 Official Results Book will be published and sent to all finishers in February.

The 29th Annual Marine Corps Marathon will be held on October 31, 2004. Be sure to check the web site for training information, lottery dates, special news and deadlines.

Again, congratulations on a job well done!
