U.S. MARINE WINS TURKEY TROT 10K FOR HIS THIRD TOP FINISH IN MCM EVENT SERIES
Maj. Jason Kut, 34, of Quantico, VA was far ahead of the pack at today's Turkey Trot 10K as Kut made the Turkey Trot his third win in the MCM Event Series. Kut finished the 6.2 mile Turkey Trot in 35:26 placing first among 751 finishers. Kut also won Run Amuck on June 12 and the RunStock 5K on Aug. 20, part of the MCM Event Series that includes a variety of distance races organized by the MCM held March through November.

POTOMAC RIVER RUNNING OF RESTON, VA REPEATS WIN IN MCM RUNNING STORE TEAM COMPETITION
The Potomac River Running Store of Reston, VA has conquered the MCM Team Running Store Competition for the second year in a row. Held during the 36th MCM on Oct. 30, 2011, the competition featured teams from 15 Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. running stores. Potomac River Running finished first with a combined time of 8:46:30. Paces Corporate came in second with a time of 9:00:22, and sister store Paces Pentagon Row secured third place with a time of 9:27:29.

MCM RECOGNIZES FIVE VIRGINIA SCHOOL WITH HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD
Inclement weather for the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run did not dampen the commitment area elementary schools made to promoting physical fitness within their student populations. Held on Oct. 29 in Arlington, VA, the Healthy Kids Fun Run registered 3,000 runners ages 5 to 12, nearly two-thirds entered through the coodinated effort of physical education teachers and PTA groups. The elementary schools with the most students registered will receive the Healthy School Award and $1,000 toward their PE departments from MCM partner, Sodexo.

TURKEY TROT UNVEILS NEW COURSE ON MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO
Runners hoping to preemptively conteract Thanksgiving calories by participating in the 2011 Turkey Trot 10K will gobble up a new course aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Saturday, Nov. 19. The final event of the 2011 MCM Event Series is open to runners ages ten and older and starts at 8:40 a.m. behind Quantico's Lejeune Hall on Catlin Ave. The Turkey Trot One-Miler for kids ages 12 and under will start off the day's events at 8:30 a.m.

US ARMY RANGER WINS FOURTH LARGEST MARINE CORPS MARATHON
A U.S. Army lieutenant won the 36th MCM in what was the fastest finish time since 1997. The 20,895 finishers marks the fourth largest total since the event began in 1976. Despite chilly morning temperatures of 39 degrees at 8:00 a.m., over 98 percent of the 21,250 who started the event crossed the finish line.

The MCM is extending its annual Health & Fitness Expo presented by GE over three days prior to the 36th MCM, featuring the biggest showcase in exercise equipment, product sampking, health screening, fitness technologies, giveaways and unique access to running industry experts, like Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall. The Expo is free and open to the public from Oct. 27 through Oct. 29 at the DC Armory located at 2001 E. Capitol Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. with free parking available outside the Armory.

MCM ENHANCES SPECTATOR EXPERIENCE WITH MOBILE LOCATOR
The MCM is introducing a new mobile locator web application to enhance the spectator experience. MCM Locator will enable spectators to obtain directions and approximate distances from their location to various sites along the marathon course. By simply opening an iPhone and Android phone browser to the website www.mcmlocator.com, spectators can view the location of MCM mile markers, water points, transportation and food stations.

MCM EXTENDS RUNNER TRACKING TO SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS
The 36th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is tremendously increasing runner tracking throughout the world of social networks and the mobile universe. For the first time, runners and spectators can view a participant’s progress every 10K in real time on individual Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, email and text messages. A Facebook leader board on the MCM Official Page tracking the male and female front runners also is being unveiled at the upcoming MCM.

The MCM is unveiling a commemorative bib designed by military cartoonist Jeff Bacon for the Crossroads 17.75K road race on Saturday, Sept. 17. Bacon's original design comically displays participants running in the Crossroads 17.75K through Prince William Forest Park, which makes up a large portion of the 11.03-mile course through Prince William County, VA. Bacon is a retired U.S. Navy captain and celebrated military cartoonist of the "Broadside" and "Greenside" cartoons that depict the men and women of the Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

MARINE CORPS OFFICER LEADS GRIMY PACK OF RUNNERS AT RUN AMUCK
Marine Corps Maj. Jason Kut, 33, outpaced by 44 seconds William Mikolajczak, 24, of Triangle, VA, the defending three-time champion, in today’s Run Amuck held on Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA. Kut, a Logistics Operation Officer at Quantico, topped 2,369 finishers completing the 3.5 mile obstacle-laden course in 23:09. Mikolajczak placed second finishing in 23.53 with David Janas, 17, of Clifton, VA, placing third.

The Marine Corps Historic Half welcomed 5,679 finishers including runners from all 50 states to the finish line in Fredericksburg, VA. Law student Lanni Marchant (27), from Lansing, MI, set a new course record among women today completing the 13.1 mile event in 1:21:27. Wyatt Boyd (26) of Washington, D.C. finished first overall with a 1:13:53 finish time.

MARINE CORPS HISTORIC HALF NAMED RRCA'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE
The Marine Corps Historic Half marathon has been designated the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Half Marathon National Championship Race. The RRCA, which represents 1,200 local running clubs across the United States, will hold its annual convention in the City of Fredericksburg, VA, also the location of the Historic Half. The Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) and the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) are hosting the convention from May 12 through May 14, coinciding with Historic Half Weekend.

DREW CAREY TO RUN FIRST HALF MARATHON AT HISTORIC HALF IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA
Comedian and "The Price is Right" game show host Drew Carey will make his half marathon debut at the Marine Corps Historic Half on May 15 in Fredericksburg, VA. Carey announced his plans to run in a March 14 tweet. In addition to running, Carey also will serve as the official starter of the half marathon event.

U.S. MARINE CORPORAL TAKES FIRST PLACE AT IRISH SPRINT 10K
Lucky gold finisher coins, festive Irish entertainment and green beer attracted 714 finishers from 21 states to complete the Irish Sprint 10K on March 26 on Marine Corps Base Quantico. A U.S. Marine Corporal led the pack completing the 6.2 mile event in just 35:20. Cpl. Craigh Clark, a 24-year-old native of Hamden, CT, won the Irish Sprint 10K, the first run in the 2011 MCM Event Series organized by the MCM.

At 4:04 p.m. today, the MCM sold out all available online entries in just 28 hours and 4 minutes, marking the fastest sell-out in the history of "The People's Marathon." The previous MCM registration record occurred in 2005, when the event sold out in 62 hours and 9 minutes.
