MCM INTRODUCES ONLINE PUBLICATION WRITTEN BY HIGH SCHOOL JOURNALISTS
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) today introduced an online publication written entirely by high school students from the Greater D.C. area. The Post Race is the end product of an innovative partnership between the MCM and The Washington Post Young Journalists Development Program (YJDP). The publication, hosted on the MCM website, presents five feature articles written by the students plus their photography.

POTOMAC RIVER RUNNING OF FALLS CHURCH WINS MCM RUNNING STORE COMPETITION
The Potomac River Running Store of Falls Church, VA, is the winner of the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Team Running Store Competition. Ten stores located in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., organized teams of five runners who participated in the 34th MCM on Sunday, October 25.

TRIANGLE, VA RESIDENT RECOGNIZED AS 400,000TH MCM FINISHER
With the results of the 34th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) formally finalized today, event organizers determined Judith Mosely, 42, of Triangle, Virginia was the 18,530th finisher in the October 25 event earning her recognition as the 400,000th finisher in the event’s history.

MCM ANNOUNCES 2009 HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD WINNERS
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) today announced the recipients of the annual Healthy School Award, presented to the three schools with the most student participants in the Healthy Kids Fun Run. The one-mile run held in the Pentagon North Parking lot on October 24 hosted a record 2,691 runners between the ages 6-13 from 353 different schools.

34TH ANNUAL MARINE CORPS MARATHON
Nearly 21,000 runners crossed the start line at today’s Marine Corps Marathon. The 26.2 mile race took participants on a journey through the streets of Arlington, Va., and Washington, DC culminating with a finish at the Marine Corps War Memorial.

NISSAN NAMED EXCLUSIVE VEHICLE OF MCM
Nissan was named exclusive vehicle partner of the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon scheduled for Sunday, October 25, and it will be the presenting sponsor of the MCM Speaker Series on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24.

MCM GETS 'SPIN-NOVATIVE' WITH ON-COURSE MILE MARKERS
The MCM has partnered with AArow Advertising Northern Virginia to add an exciting, 'spinteractive' element to mile markers along the 26.2 mile course.  Traditional static mile markers will be replaced in nine locations with sign spinners, who will be performing with the nearly six-foot long arrow-shaped signs, bringing color, energy and movement to the mile markers.

MCM SPEEDS UP INFORMATION DELIVERY FOR RACE WEEKEND WITH BRAINSHARK ONLINE TUTORIALS
The MCM today introduced online tutorial, available on its website, to guide its 30,000 runners and estimated 150,000 spectators through race weekend.  By using software from Brainshark, Inc., a leader in on-demand presentations, the MCM is able to deliver information about the Oct. 25 marathon to participants and spectators faster and more effectively than ever before.

MORE THAN $2 MILLION SPENT IN FREDERICKSBURG, VA AREA BY PARTICIPANTS AND SPECTATORS OF THE HISTORIC HALF
The Fredericksburg, VA area received $2.1 million in spending over the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon weekend during May 2009 according to a report from Mary Washington University.  The study, which randomly interviewed runners and spectators - both local and visitors, found that more than 14,500 people came to the area as part of the Historic Half generating an estimated economic impact (the total impact of spending using the multiplier effect) of between $4.4 and 6.5 million.

RUNNERS ROCK AT RUNSTOCK
Runners tocked at RunStock on Saturday, August 15 aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico in VA.  The 5K race took runners on a tour of the town of Quantico and finished with a live concert by local band, Rome In A Day.  Five-hundred-ninety-four participants crossed the finish line, lead by husband and wife team Joey and Tina Zins.

MCM LAUNCHES NEW GREEN INITIATIVES AS PART OF EVENT CERTIFICATION
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has a launched a new campaign recognizing the event’s environmentally-friendly initiatives. Working with Holliston, MA-based Athletes for A Fit Planet, the MCM is seeking silver-level certification from the Council for Responsible Sport in an effort to create a more eco-conscious event.

HARRIS CORPORATION PROVIDES 3-D VIRTUAL MAP OF MCM COURSE
For the first time, participants in the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) can see a virtual, three-dimensional map of the entire marathon course, thanks to technology from new sponsor Harris Corporation. Harris is using technology from its RealSite® product family to create the stunningly realistic video map.

RUN AMUCK RUNS WILD ON MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO
The top finishers of Run Amuck, the second event in the MCM Event Series, held on June 20, have been announced.  Runners were challenged with a variety of hills and obstacles including hay bales, a tire dash, a mud put, a water challenge and more!  William Mikolajczak, 23 of Triangle, VA won the top male finisher award for the second year in a row with a time of 29:02.  Angel Stone, 31, of Arlington, VA won the top female finisher award with her time of 35:37.

NATIONAL RUNNING DAY HITS NATIONAL MALL WITH MCM AND DC MAYOR ADRIAN FENTY
The Marine Corps Marathon hosted the Washington, DC portion of the inaugural National Running Day. Organized to promote running as a healthy, easy, and accessible form of exercise, the day included a one mile fun run beginning at the Lincoln Memorial and continuing around the World War II Memorial along the National mall.

FREDERICKSBURG SELECTED AS 2011 RRCA CONVENTION HOST
Historic Fredericksburg, VA has been selected as the host of the 2011 Annual Convention of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), the national association of running clubs, running events and runners.  The convention is scheduled for May 12-15, 2011.  The event will be coordinated by Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) and the Marine Corps Marathon Running Club (MCM).

BACK-TO-BACK WINS FOR FREDERICKSBURG'S YOUNG AT HISTORIC HALF
For the second consecutive year, Tim Young of Fredericksburg, VA was the top finisher at the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon.  Young, 22, improved by two minutes over his 2008 winning time of 1:08:51 by finishing at 1:06:57 to lead the field of 5,007 runners.  Taking a lead within mile one that was never challenged, Young finished more than three minutes ahead of the second place finisher, Aaron Church of South Riding, VA.  Periods of strong rain and wind did not prevent 4,923 runners from completing the run through historic Fredericksburg.

ALL NEW MCM10K MOVES START TO NATIONAL MALL ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25
The MCM today announced the All New MCM10K presented by Aetna will register an expanded race field of 7,500 runners and relocate the start line to the DC side of the Potomac on Sunday, October 25 at 8 a.m.

MCM HEALTHY KIDS RUN CELEBRATES 10 YEARS IN 2009
The Healthy Kids Fun Run will celebrate its tenth anniversary on Saturday, October 24 when the annual event is held in Arlington, VA as part of the Marine Corps Marathon weekend.  Children ages 6-13 may register to participate in the un-timed, one-mile confidence building run where everyone is a winner.

34TH MCM SELLS OUT IN 16 DAYS
The MCM today announced that registration for the Sunday, October 25 event officially closed at 11:53 a.m. In just under 16 days, the MCM registered runners from all 50 states to fill the 30,000 spots in the 34th
running of "The People’s Marathon." The MCM is the fifth largest marathon in the United States and tenth in the world.

MORE THAN 1,100 RUNNERS GAIN EARLY ACCESS TO MCM BY FINISHING THE RUN 2 REGISTER 10K
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) kicked off the 2009 MCM Event Series on Saturday, March 28 with the inaugural MCM Run 2 Register 10K (R2R) at Quantico's historic Butler Stadium.  The R2R hosted the largest field in the two-year history of the MCM Event Series.  All 1,102 R2R finishers received guaranteed early access to register for the 34th MCM, four days before online registration opens to the public on Wednesday, April 1.  The MCM will be held on Sunday, October 25 in Arlington, VA.

HOLLIN MEADOWS SCIENCE & MATH FOCUS SCHOOL TO RECEIVE MCM HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD
A special assembly will be held at Hollin Meadows Science & Math Focus School to present the Healthy School Award. The assembly will feature special guests and activities including Marine Corps Marathon race director Rick Nealis, Ronald McDonald and the National Children’s Museum’s “Museum without Walls” program. Washington FAMILY Magazine will make a financial donation to each school’s physical education department.
