MARATHONFOTO SHOOTS NEARLY 450,000 PHOTOS AT 2008 MCM
In its fourth year as photo partner at the Marine Corps Marathon, MarathonFoto shot nearly 450,000 photos, a record for the annual event, held October 26, 2008. Taken throughout the course, start and finish areas, the 444,130 photos included assigned images for 22,717 runners, or approximately 20 images per runner, as well as group photos, publicity shots and more. The total number of photos was up more than 100,000 from the 336,714 images captured in 2007.

MCM ANNOUNCES 2009 EVENT SERIES SCHEDULE
The Marine Corps Marathon Event Series returns in 2009 with old favorites and exciting new races. The MCM Event Series, held aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, welcomes the military community and is open to the general public. The 2009 series features: MCM Run to Register 10K, Run Amuck 4-Miler, RunStock 5K, Crossroads 12K and the Turkey Trot 5K. Online registration for each of the events begins at noon eastern on January 7 on the MCM website, www.marinemarathon.com. The $30 per event registration fee includes event shirt, race materials, hospitality, chip timing using the ChronoTrack Timing System and unique entertainment. Familyfriendly registration including a kid’s version of the Run Amuck is also available.

FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOLS TO RECEIVE MCM HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD
Three schools from Fairfax County will receive the 2008 Healthy School Awards.  Lynbrook Elementary, Eagle View Elementary and Hollin Meadows Science & Math Focus School were the schools with the greatest number of students participating in the Healthy Kids Fun Run, a one-mile just for fun event, conducted on October 25, 2008, the day prior to the MCM.  The award is presented annually by the MCM and its partner, Washington FAMILY Magazine to promote health and fitness.

MCM EVENT SERIES WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Organizers of the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon Event Series, held aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, have announced the winners of the Overall Series Awards in four categories: overall male, overall female, masters male and masters female. The awards will be presented in a special ceremony on December 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marine Corps Marathon building, located at 3399 Russell Road in Quantico, VA.

SEMPER FRED 5K ADDED TO WEEKEND EVENTS AT HISTORIC HALF MARATHON
Organizers of the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon (MCHH) announced today the addition of a new race, the Semper Fred 5K, to the line-up of weekend events. The 3.1 mile race will begin shortly after the MCHH at 7:15 a.m. on May 17 in Fredericksburg, VA. Runners can expect a moderately flat course, beginning and ending at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center.

GEORGETOWN RUNNING COMPANY WINS MCM RUNNING STORE TEAM AWARD
Georgetown Running Company is the winner of the annual Running Store Team Competition, held as part of the Marine Corps Marathon on October 26, 2008. Georgetown Running Company, located in Washington DC, finished first out of 12 competing stores with a combined time of 8:21:41. The second place team, with a combined time of 9:07:34, hailed from Potomac River Running in Reston, VA. Third place was secured by Metro Run & Walk in Falls Church, VA, with a combined time of 9:11:26.

ROSSLYN GIVES MCM CLOTHING A SECOND RUN
The Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) is helping the homeless by providing them clothing shed by Marine Corps Marathon runners during the first mile of the 33rd annual race.

MCM ANNOUNCES TOP FINISHERS
The 33rd MCM has announced top finishers for the October 26 event. Andrew Dumm, 23 of Arlington, Virginia, finished first with a time of 2:22:44. Finishing second was 24 year-old C. Fred Joslyn of Rochester, Michigan, with a time of 2:23:54. The third male finisher was Corey Duquette, 26, of Pensacola, Florida, with a time of 2:24:40.

MCM WELCOMES TEN NEW SPONSORS
The MCM will boast the largest sponsorship lineup in the event's 33-year history.  Presenting sponsors Arlington County, Brooks, CVS Caremark, and USAA are joined by ten new sponsor partners for the race, to be held on October 26 in Arlington, VA.

MCM ANNOUNCES RECYCLING INITIATIVE WITH PARTNERS AQUAFINA AND ARLINGTON COUNTY
Runners and spectators of the Marine Corps Marathon can expect an exciting new change in the event held on October 26, 2008. As the Aquafina® Green Team comes to town, Aquafina will set up twenty-five recycling kiosks, with support staff, in hightraffic locations throughout the Finish Festival area in Rosslyn, Virginia. The colorful recycling kiosks stand six-feet tall, and will collect up to 2,700 plastic bottles each. For a third year, Arlington County will collect cardboard and plastic recyclable materials at the race finish as well as at all Arlington-based water points.

SODEXO NAMED FOODSERVICE PROVIDER FOR MCM
Sodexo, Inc. announced today that the company has been named the foodservice provider for the Marine Corps Marathon and its surrounding weekend of events. Under the new agreement, Sodexo will provide the fuel that makes both the marathoners and event staff run later this month in Washington, D.C.

MCM10K REACHES CAPACITY
The Marine Corps Marathon 10K presented by Aetna reached a capacity race field yesterday with a record 5,000 participants. The MCM10K, held as part of Marine Corps Marathon weekend, begins just minutes after the marathon on race morning, October 26.

MCM TO USE CHRONOTRACK TIMING SYSTEMS, INC. FOR 2008 RACE
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today it will partner with ChronoTrack Timing Systems, Inc. to record the results of runners along the 2008 course. The new system, which replaces ChampionChip, will utilize a light-weight disposable timing tag. The "D-tag" will record a runner’s official time, beginning when a participant crosses the start line and concluding as he or she passes the finish, as well as split times every 5K along the course.

MCM CLOSES REGISTRATION IN FIVE DAYS
Registration for the 33rd Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) sold out on May 5 at 10:30 p.m. eastern time with 30,000 participants. Thousands of runners hit the MCM website,
www.marinemarathon.com, as registration opened on April 30 to ensure a spot on October 26 on the Arlington, VA start line. The five day sell out was the second fastest in event history. In 2005, the race closed in under three days.

MCM ANNOUNCES REGISTRATION PROCEDURES FOR 2008

The Marine Corps Marathon today announced registration procedures for the 2008 event, to be held on October 26 in Arlington, VA. Runners from across the country and around the world can register on a first come, first served basis by clicking the link to registration on the MCM website, www.marinemarathon.com, beginning at noon eastern on April 30. The race field is limited to 30,000 participants and is expected to fill up quickly.

MCM AND BROOKS SPORTS, INC. EXPAND PARTNERSHIP FOR 2008

ACTIVE DUTY MARINE WINS BUTLER RELAY
The top finishers of the Butler Relay, the first event in the new Marine Corps Marathon Event Series, held on March 29, have been announced. Marine Master Sergeant Jeff Klemmer, 37, won the top male finisher award, and along with teammate Brad Shultis, 47, cinched the first place award in the male team category. Shultis also won the Top Male Masters award. Unofficial chip times for all award winners are listed below.

GEICO TO SPONSOR INAUGURAL HISTORIC HALF AND MCM EVENT SERIES

RIBBON CUTTING AND FUN RUN AT NEWLY RENOVATED BUTLER STADIUM
Members of the local community are invited to join military members and civilians aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico to celebrate the completion of renovations to Butler Stadium. On March 28, beginning at 12:00 p.m., the stadium will be officially reopened in a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Marine Corps Base Quantico Commanding Officer Colonel Charles Dallachie and Marine Corps Marathon Race Director, Rick Nealis.

SEMPER FRED FUN RUN ADDED TO RACE DAY LINE UP AT HISTORIC HALF
Organizers of the Marine Corps Marathon have announced a new event, to be held just minutes after the start of the sold-out Marine Corps Historic Half on May 18. The Semper Fred Fun Run is a two-mile just-for-fun challenge offering runners and walkers of all ages the chance to get in on the race day excitement! Beginning at 7:15 a.m., the out and back course will follow the first mile of the Marine Corps Historic Half, starting and finishing outside the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center on Carl D. Silver Parkway.
