MCM ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and Washington FAMILY Magazine, proud sponsor of the Healthy Kids Fun Run, announced today the winners of the 2007 Healthy School Award. Divided into three categories based on school enrollment the winners are: Alexandria’s Charles Barrett Elementary (enrollment less than 300 students), Fairfax’s Lynbrook Elementary (enrollment between 300 – 600 students) and Eagle View Elementary, also of Fairfax (enrollment above 600 students).

REGISTRATION CLOSES FOR INAUGURAL HISTORIC HALF IN 13 DAYS
The inaugural Marine Corps Historic Half (MCHH) sold out in less than two weeks when registration reached capacity on November 14 at 3:00 p.m. eastern time for the May 18, 2008 event. Thousands of runners hit the event website, www.marinemarathon.com, as registration opened on November 1 at noon eastern to ensure one of the 5,000 spots in the brand new event. Robert Dolan, 41 of Ashburn, VA, was the first runner to register online. He completed the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon just four days prior and was excited to participate in the Historic Half. Dolan was one of 1,625 runners, or more than 27 runners per minute, registered in the first hour of rolling registration.

AMATEUR RADIO SERVICE NAMED VOLUNTEER GROUP OF THE YEAR BY MCM
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today the Amateur Radio Service as its volunteer group of the year for their 30 years of service and support for the annual event. Amateur Radio, or "HAM" Radio volunteers began assisting with the Marine Corps Marathon in 1978 and have provided essential, mission critical communications to the medical staff on race day.

MCM RACE DIRECTOR RECEIVES EVENT DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
Marine Corps Marathon Race Director Rick Nealis received the Portland Marathon’s Event Director of the Year Award as part of Event Director College, October 4-6. The annual award is presented based on the criteria of a logistically sound and quality event, the organizational accuracy of the event and the reputation of the director’s abilities among his peers on a sustained basis. Past winners include Julian Smith, Director of the Cooper River Bridge Run and Wally Castner, Director of Big Sur.

MCM CELEBRATES 32 YEARS WITH 32 SUPER-SIZED GOODIE BAGS
As part of a yearlong salute to participants, the Marine Corps Marathon will be "super-sizing" 32 extra special goodie bags, in honor of the 32nd anniversary of the event.  Each runner receives a goodie bag at Packet Pick-up, filled with coupons and giveaways from vendors and sponsors.  This year, the special "super-sized" bags will also contain great products from MCM sponsors and licensees.

Arlington County, Virginia announces October as Marine Corps Marathon month in a special presentation spotlighting the county’s fitness initiatives and events held in conjunction with the Marine Corps Marathon.

MCM ANNOUNCES NEW COURSE FOR 2007
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today changes to the 2007 marathon course. Due to construction on the Rock Creek Parkway, course adjustments will circle the Georgetown Reservoir and take runners on a scenic tour of the Georgetown Canal. The new course also benefits runners by arriving them at the 14th Street Bridge at mile 19, one mile earlier than in previous years, allowing them more time to "Beat the Bridge."

MCM ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH CRYSTAL CITY BID
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today a new partnership with the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) of Arlington, Virginia. The new partnership will expand on-course activities hosted in the Crystal City area on Marine Corps Marathon race day, October 28, 2007. The new partnership also includes a new post-race celebration concert.

MCM RESPONDS TO RUNNER REQUESTS WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF TRANSFER POLICY
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has announced the return of the transfer policy. The transfer policy will allows registered runners unable to participate in the sold-out October 28 marathon to transfer their bib number to another runner seeking entry. The program is available from August 1 through September 21.

MORE THAN $31 MILLION SPENT IN WASHINGTON DC AREA BY MCM PARTICIPANTS AND SPECTATORS IN 2006
The Washington DC Metro area received $31.7 million in spending over the Marine Corps Marathon weekend during October 2006 according to a recent report from the George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies. The study, which randomly interviewed runners and spectators- both local and visitors, found that more than 96,000 people came to the area as a part of the MCM generating a 62% increase in dollars spent from the same weekend in 2004 and a more than 160% increase from dollars spent the same weekend in 2002.

MCM ANNOUNCES NEW RUNNING EVENT
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today a new half marathon, to be held in Fredericksburg, Virginia in May 2008. In a presentation to the members of the Fredericksburg City Council on June 12, the MCM proposal was supported with enthusiasm and excitement.

ONLY 14 DAYS NEEDED TO CLOSE REGISTRATION FOR 32ND MCM
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) sold out on May 23 at 3:00 p.m. eastern time with 30,000 participants for the October 28 event. Thousands of runners hit the MCM website, www.marinemarathon.com, as registration opened on May 9 at noon eastern to ensure a spot on the Arlington, VA start line. A previous MCM finisher, Michael Goldstein of Washington, DC, was the first runner to register online. Goldstein was one of 4,614 runners, or more than 1 runner per second, registered in the first hour of rolling registration.

MCM SALUTES RUNNERS IN 2007
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today a reduced 2007 online entry fee of $80, a nearly 10% rollback from 2006. Registration includes all race materials, a free subscription to the online virtual trainer, a $10 discount on a MCM Pasta Mess Tent ticket, bib, mock neck participant shirt, and single use souvenir commemorative chip. Online rolling registration begins on May 9 at noon eastern at www.marinemarathon.com.
