FAIRFAX COUNTY'S LYNBROOK ELEMENTARY WINS MCM HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD FOR 6TH CONSECUTIVE TIME
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) and FAMILY Magazine, proud sponsor of the Healthy Kids Fun Run, will present the MCM Healthy School Award to Fairfax County’s Lynbrook Elementary. This marks the sixth consecutive year the Springfield, VA school has received this honor. The Healthy School Award is presented to the school with the greatest number of students participating in the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run, a one mile fun run conducted the day prior to the MCM. FAMILY Magazine will make a $1,000 donation to the school’s physical education department.

PACERS WINS MCM RUNNING STORE COMPETITION
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) announced today Pacers as the 2006 MCM Running Store Team Competition. The Northern Virginia running store team finished the 2006 MCM with the winning combined time of 9:25:40. Gotta Run of Arlington finished in second place with a combined time of 10:34:00.

MCM HEALTH & FITNESS EXPO SPEAKER SERIES AND ENTERTAINMENT SCHEDULE
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today an extended live entertainment line up for the MCM Health and Fitness Expo at the DC Armory on October 27-28. Over the years, the MCM Speaker Series has become a must-see for runners and guests. Now visitors to the Health and Fitness Expo can enjoy live entertainment and music on the Outdoor Entertainment Stage.

MCM ANNOUNCES ENTERTAINMENT FOR PASTA DINNERS
The Marine Corps Marathon announced today legendary John "The Penguin" Bingham will be the featured speaker at the 4:30 p.m. seating of the Carbo Dining In, an upscale pasta party event for the MCM, on October 28 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. Running coach and former Los Angeles police officer Pat Connelly will be the featured speaker at the 6:15 p.m. seating. The Leatherneck Pipe and Drums and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon will entertain the audience at both events.

MCM TO RUN IN IRAQ
The Marine Corps Marathon, in conjunction with the Marines of the Multi National Force West, announced today the first-ever satellite running of the annual event. Touted as the Marine Corps Marathon Forward, service members from throughout Iraq will gather to participate in the 26.2 mile test of endurance in 80 degree temperatures. More than 6,000 miles from the Arlington, VA finish line, the deployed Marines will earn their place as a MCM finisher by completing the event in the Al Anbar province.

REGISTRATION RALLY
Local runners are invited to join the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) for a midday break on May 16, the day prior to the opening of online registration, to be among the first to secure an entry into the 31st
MCM. 1,000 early entries and active duty discounts will be available at the MCM Registration Rally from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Pentagon Row in Arlington, VA. The rally features music from the Marine Corps Base Quantico Band, food and product sampling by Pentagon Row merchants, prize giveaways, MCM Brooks training gear, coupon savings and more.

PRESENTING THE NEW MCM10K
The Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) announced today a new 10K race to be held in conjunction with the annual 26.2-mile event on Sunday, October 29, 2006. The new 10K will utilize the same start and finish line as the MCM and replace the previous MCM 8K. Runners of all ages are invited to participate in the 6.2-mile race.

ABC'S GOOD MORNING AMERICA VIEWERS CHOOSE MCM
ABC’s Good Morning America viewers overwhelmingly chose the Marine Corps Marathon for Good Morning America’s Mike Barz to accomplish his new year's resolution of completing a marathon. Narrowing down choices based on time of year and average temperature, the features correspondent and weatherman offered the Chicago, Marine Corps and New York City Marathons as his top three options. Viewers were encouraged to vote for their choice on the Good Morning America website. The Marine Corps Marathon prevailed as the viewer’s choice with 55 percent of the vote.

MCM ANNOUNCES THE WEAR IN THE WORLD CONTEST
Where in the world will runners wear the 30th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) purple mock neck competitor shirt? Whether it’s the Grand Canyon, the slopes of Vermont, the Super Bowl, the Great Wall of China or onboard a cruise, runners are invited to take a digital or hard copy photo wearing the purple shirt. One picture will be randomly selected to win a MCM prize package including apparel, souvenirs and a spot in the 2006 MCM.
