Transportation

Runners and spectators can take advantage of a variety of options for reaching the MCM start line.

Metro

Getting around is easy with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro).  Be sure to get your
map, check fares and schedulesService begins at 5:00 a.m. for MCM runners and spectators on race morning.

Metro on race morningMarathon runners should use the Pentagon Station (blue or yellow line) to access the start line through Runners Village in the Pentagon North Parking lot.  This location hosts pre-race UPS Baggage Drop off.  Arlington Cemetery (blue line) station will not open until 8:30 a.m., after the official MCM start.  On event day, this station may only be used to access to finish area or to leave post-race.  The MCM10K start is convenient to the Smithsonian Metro (blue/orange line).

The MCM, in partnership with WMATA, is working to minimize the effects of scheduled track work during event weekend. Runners should familiarize themselves with the planned maintenance work and potential impact on particular Metro lines and adjust MCM Day schedule accordingly.

A SmarTrip(r) card is a permanent, rechargeable card used to pay Metrorail and local bus system fares. It's plastic, like a credit card, and is embedded with a special computer chip that keeps track of the value of the card.  Using a SmarTrip(r) card is fast and easy. Instead of inserting a farecard through the Metrorail faregate slot, you simply touch the SmarTrip(r) card to the circular targets on top of or inside station faregates. Likewise, you can tap the SmarTrip(r) farebox on Metrobus to pay your fare with SmarTrip(r).  On Metrorail, each trip taken with a SmarTrip(r) card cost $1 less than those taken with a paper farecard. That's a savings of $2 per roundtrip.  Purchase a SmarTrip now!

MCM10K
Metro remains the most convenient means to arrive at the MCM10K start with the Smithsonian station (blue/orange line) being located directly at the start.  The Metro system opens at 5:00 a.m. on Marathon morning.  There is no shuttle service to the MCM10K start nor is there any designated MCM10K parking location, as road closures for the marathon will affect the area surrounding the course.  Convenient post-race Metro stations are located in Rosslyn (blue/orange line) and Arlington Cemetery (blue line).

Shuttles

Pre-race shuttle will run from 23rd & Crystal Drive in Crystal City to Runners Village in the Pentagon North Parking Lot beginning at 5:30 a.m. Post-race shuttles will be located at the base of the Finish Festival on Oak Street and Wilson Blvd.

Metro and post-race shuttles are located at the west end of the Finish Festival. The post-race shuttles return runners and spectators to 23rd and Crystal Drive in Crystal City (blue/yellow lines).

Guaranteed Reserved Parking
To make parking for event-day easy and stress-free, the MCM has partnered with Parking Panda, the nationwide leader in online parking reservations, to allow visitors to purchase Parking Passes at several convenient locations near the MCM Start/Finish Line and throughout the city.

Once purchased, Parking Passes for the Marine Corps Marathon are 100% guaranteed at the selected location. Inventory is limited and garages will fill up before the race, so it is strongly recommended that runners, spectators and volunteers purchase Parking Passes for the MCM if driving.

NOTE: Be sure to check the hours of operation at your selected location before purchasing to ensure the location is open early enough to allow plenty of time to arrive on event morning.

Pre-race shuttle service from this parking location to Runners Village begins at 5:30 a.m. Additionally, runners coming from Virginia may wish to park at the Vienna Metro Station (orange line) or Franconia/Springfield Station (blue line) parking deck and take a short Metro ride to the event. Post-race shuttles will return runners and spectators to 23rd & Crystal Drive in Crystal City. View parking map of Crystal City.

Additional parking is available at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center

The Ronald Reagan Building is a 2,000 space secured sublevel parking garage open to the public between the hours of 5:00am and 2:00am with three entrances/exits to the garage that should not be impacted by street closures. The cost for parking on MCM Weekend is a flat rate of $13.00 per vehicle. Pre-paid validated parking stickers are also available to purchase.

Ride a Bike to MCM
It's a marathon, not a duathlon, but that shouldn't stop motivated individuals from arriving at and departing from the MCM on a bike.  Capital Bikeshare is a joint program in Arlington and the nation's capital that brings bikesharing, public transportation using bicycles, to area residents and visitors. This network of docking stations and specially-built bikes allows individuals to check out a bike, ride to a destination served by the network, and return the bike to another docking station. For MCM participants, docking stations are conveniently located near the MCM Start (Long Bridge Park / S. 6th St - 15 docks and S. 12th St. & Army Navy Drive - 11 docks) and the MCM10K Start (USDA / 12th & Independence Ave SW - 39 docks and Smithsonian / Jefferson & 12th St. SW - 22 docks).

With hundreds of stations and thousands of bikes in the District, Arlington, Alexandria and Montgomery County, this on-demand mode of transportation is just $7 for a 24-hour membership. Visit Capitalbikeshare.com.
