Marine Pictured on Salute
Marine Gunnery Sgt. Jose Vasquez happily displays the 2012 Marine Corps Marathon program "Salute" and the 37th MCM Media Guide with the front cover photo of him running the MCM. Vasquez is a veteran of 10 marathons, finishing both the 2010 and the 2011 MCM, which is depicted on the publications. Vasquez, who has served 14 years in the Marine Corps, was deployed to Twentynine Palms, CA when his wife Lesette, discovered her husband became the 2012 MCM cover. Vasquez, a Marine Corps Infantryman now stationed in North Carolina, is about to be deployed to Afghanistan, where he will serve in an advisory role to Afghanistan troops. "The Marine Corps Marathon is such a great event, it's amazing to be part of," says Vasquez. "I plan to keep running with the American flag. Even when I would see someone running in pain, they would take one look at the American flag and then keep going ... it's a great feeling."
