Quantico Tri

Splash, cycle, and beat feet in the Quantico Tri on August 24!  Hosted aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, each leg of the sprint distance event features a unique view of the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps."

The Quantico Tri will start with three waves.  Athletes will be notified of their assigned wave following registration.  Participants will begin with a 400-yard swim in the Quantico 50M Pool by completing 16 lengths using the width of the pool before making a short trek to the transition area.

Athletes then set off on an eight-mile out-and-back cycle tour of the main side of the Marine base, founded in 1917. Cyclists begin on Dunlap Circle, onto Russell Road, as it turns into Barnett Avenue, named after Major General George Barnett, the 12th Commandant of the Marine Corps. Cyclists curve left as Barnett Avenue turns into Fuller Road, named for 15th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Major General Ben Hebard Fuller. Just before mile 4, cyclists turn left onto Purvis Road, named for Marine Cpl Hugh Purvis, who received a medal of honor for his actions during the 1871 Korean Campaign. The turnaround point is the Child Development Center on Purvis Road. Cyclists will complete the same route coming back toward the transition area before hitting the run portion.

After racking bikes, athletes continue on to complete a 5K run. This distance is similar to the three-mile event every Marine must complete annually as part of the Marine Corps physical fitness test.
