Irish Sprint 10K

It's the fastest way into the 2012 Marine Corps Marathon. Run the Irish Sprint 10K to receive guaranteed access to "The People's Marathon." Use this 6.2-mile excuse to skip the online dash to register for the MCM and cruise into the race field without having to hit refresh once.

The Irish Sprint 10K will take runners on a trek of Prince William Forest Park before reaching the pot o’gold at the end of the rainbow, errr course.

 

The Irish Sprint 10K will begin at 8:00 a.m. on March 17.  The event will include four waves of runners launching every two minutes.  Participants must maintain an 18 minute-per-mile pace to meet the course time requirements. 

 

 

TRANSPORTATION & PARKING
Runners, spectators and volunteers are required to ride shuttles to the Irish Sprint 10K start in Prince William Forest Park. There is no onsite parking in the National Park. Shuttle service will begin at 6:00 a.m. transporting runners from two locations, the Commuter Lot at Route 1 and 234 and Quantico Center parking lot off 234, directly adjacent to the MCM Event Series HQ Hotel, the Holiday Inn. Shuttles will run continuously between 6:00-7:45 a.m. Return shuttles for finishers will begin at 8:30 a.m. All buses will be clearly marked with signs noting their destination.


SPECTATORS
The Irish Sprint course is hosted entirely within Prince William Forest Park and simply does not support spectator access in locations other than the finish line. The start is approximately one mile from the finish location.

HISTORY OF THE IRISH SPRINT
The Irish Sprint began as an intense San Francisco-based competition between the Coast Guard and the Marine Corps in 1981. In 2010, the event moved to Marine Corps Base Quantico and was opened to public participation.
