MCM Event SeriesHeld aboard or adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico, the MCM Event Series celebrates the accomplishment of running by wrapping each event in a unique experience that showcases the organizational excellence of the United States Marine Corps.
The 2015 MCM Event Series begins on March 28 with the USMC-inspired Marine Corps 17.75K. Run Amuck follows on June 13 with the Quantico Tri occurring at the end of summer on Aug. 22. Rounding out the 2015 Series is Quantico’s famed Turkey Trot on Nov. 21.
The enthusiastically sought-after Marine Corps 17.75K sets the stage for the 40th Marine Corps Marathon. The scenic course through Prince William Forest Park ends with all finishers receiving a guaranteed entry into the MCM. The event sells out quickly; be Mission Ready when registration opens March 11.
Run Amuck, the messiest event of the 2015 series starts in front of storied LeJeune Hall aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Runners will be challenged by 21 obstacles to slip, slide, and slosh through over nearly four miles of mud. The mini version offers participants ages 8 and over a chance to participate in a condensed version of the messy muck.
Located on the famed training grounds for all future Marine officers, the Quantico Tri is pursuing plans to feature an open water swim followed by a swift 10 mile ride. Once athletes are finished with the bike course, they will run a scenic 5K offering a 3.1 mile run through the Marine Corps Base.
Unleash a preemptive strike on those Thanksgiving calories with the Turkey Trot 10K or Turkey Trot Mile. Held aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, the Turkey Trot 10K features a final calorie burning, waist-slimming opportunity for runners ages 8 and older. The one-mile version open to runners of all ages offers a mad dash similar to that of a good seat at the Thanksgiving table.
VA Runner to recognize frequent finishers in 2014
To earn this distinction, participants must have completed Run Amuck in June and either the Marine Corps Historic Half, Historic 10K or Semper Fred 5K in May plus the Turkey Trot 10K to be held on November 22. All qualified Distinguished Participants will receive a stunning custom medal, as well as access to special events hosted by VA Runner, the high end specialty running store in Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia since 1999.
2014 list of Distinguised Participants
Introduced in 2013, the VA Runner Distinguished Participant award serves as an incentive to make an on-going commitment to health and fitness that spans the entire MCM event season. More than 120 runners took this call to action last year and were presented with Distinguished Participation medals. Currently, more than 300 runners remain eligible for the 2014 designation, needing only to register for and complete the Turkey Trot 10K to complete this challenge.
In addition to the special award ceremony at the Turkey Trot, Distinguished Participants will be invited to a special Appreciation Night on December 16 at VA Runner Woodbridge including a shopping discount, recognition item giveaway and refreshments. These runners will also be invited to both VA Runner locations in January 2015 for a gear-up event with special discounts and more as runners make plans to register for 2015 MCM events.
To qualify, runners must be officially registered for an event and may not obtain a bib from another registered participant. When registering, runners are requested to use their full first and last names. By registering as "Elizabeth Smith" for the Historic Half, "Beth Smith" at Run Amuck, and "Liz Smith" for the Turkey Trot 10K, status as a Distinguished Participant may be hard to verify and delay presentation of the award.
