MCM Event Series

Held aboard or adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico, the MCM Event Series celebrates the accomplishment of distance running by wrapping each event in a unique experience that showcases the organizational excellence of the United States Marine Corps.  In 2014, the MCM Event Series hosts the unique 17.75K distance, the wildly popular Run Amuck and the classic Turkey Trot.

Whether running a 11.03 miles to secure a guaranteed entry to the Marine Corps Marathon in April, sloshing through mud pits, or taming the triple-tiered challenge of the triathlon,  the MCM Event Series offers runners of all abilities a destination run, conveniently accessible in Northern Virginia.  Experience the grandeur of a MCM-organized event in a low pressure setting complete with the massive red arches, dancing bulldog mascots, supportive sponsors, motivating music and exceptional Marine support.

Runners are encouraged to push for a PR, aspire for an age award, focus on family fitness or run for fun. The MCM Event Series welcome Marines, local participants, runners from afar and new comers to running challenges hosted from April through November 2014.

Distinguished Participation

VA Runner Issues Over 120 Distinguished Participation Medals

At the conclusion of the Turkey Trot 10K in November 2013, VA Runner recognized over 120 runners who registered for and finished events during Historic Half Weekend and Run Amuck (June), Crossroads 4-Miler (September) and Turkey Trot 10K (November). These individuals received a special distinguished participation medal for a year-long commitment to running. In addition to receiving the limited edition medal, award winners who wear the medal into the VA Runner store will receive a special one-time 30 percent discount off all non-sale items.

VA Runner to recognize frequent finishers in 2014
To earn this distinction, participants must complete any event during Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend (May 18), Run Amuck (June 14), and the Turkey Trot 10K (November 22).  All qualified Distinguished Participants will receive a stunning custom medal, as well as a one-time discount to VA Runner.

Introduced in 2013, the VA Runner Distinguished Participant award serves as an incentive to make an on-going commitment to health and fitness that spans the entire MCM event season.  More than 120 runners took this call to action and were presented with Distinguished Participation medals at the 2013 Turkey Trot.

To qualify, runners must be officially registered for an event and may not obtain a bib from another registered participant.

Further, when registering, runners are requested to use their full first and last names.  By registering as “Elizabeth Smith” for the Historic Half, “Beth Smith” at Run Amuck, and “Liz Smith” for the Turkey Trot 10K, status as a Distinguished Participant may be hard to verify and delay presentation of the award.
