Historic 10K
The Marine Corps Historic Half showcases a new way to tackle Hospital Hill in 2013 with the introduction of the Marine Corps Historic 10K (6.2 miles) on May 19, 2013. For years, half marathon finishers have left the event proud of their medal, thrilled with the experience but triumphant for having conquered the steep slope of Hospital Hill. Hospital Hill is the 200 foot, two mile climb that takes its name from its location on the campus of Mary Washington Hospital. Ironically, and to the amusement of those runners with a good sense of humor, this portion of the course passes directly by the emergency room of the hospital, with trauma signs decorating the uphill climb.
"We love being part of the fun and excitement of the Historic Half," says James Swisher, Vice President, Project Management and Continuous Improvement at Mary Washington Healthcare. "We know this is a challenging part of the course for runners, so we're excited to cheer them on as they climb Hospital Hill and get that much closer to the finish line. We also love to see and hear the feeling of accomplishment runners have when they make it to the top."
While the Historic Half starts at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center, the new Historic 10K will start in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg and follow a route similar to the final 6.2 miles of the Historic Half course. Both events begin at 7:00 a.m. and finish at the Historic Half finish line located near Wegman's and the Expo Center parking lot.
Baggage
Historic 10K participants may check their approved, clear bag adjacent to the start line at the baggage trucks located in the Quarles parking lot. These support vehicles will relocate to the finish area. Post-event baggage claim will be coordinated out of the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center parking lot.
